2013 Retrospective
Dec. 31st, 2013 06:27 pmShaping up to be another boring New Year's Eve, haha. I'm trying to talk mom into going to dinner but she keeps saying "It's not very exciting!"
But mom, the alternative is sitting around at home? I think it's at least more exciting than that. @____@
Anyway, other than that and being a little tired, I'm doing pretty well. I'm very optimistic about 2014!

Dec. 26th, 2013 06:44 pmI hope everyone had a lovely holiday season! I certainly did! I finally have a day off work tomorrow where I can sleep in and just laze around, and I need that so badly. I'm totally exhausted. Crazy season at work still isn't over, though, orz... I just have to make it through the next few weeks and things will go back to normal!
I'm a bit sad because I won a Chikorita plushplush a few weeks ago, and I was excited to win it. It's something I've wanted for a while, and of course they're not common... But the seller on Y!J sent the item to the wrong person, and attempts to recover it have failed, so no more Chikorita plushplush. T____T At least I was refunded in full, but I would have preferred the Chikorita plushplush... Oh well, nothing I can do about it, except continue my search! If anyone sees one for sale in good condition (with tag, preferably), please let me know! I'm also after the Larvitar plushplush. (And I'd love to get Porygon2, but I doubt that will happen because I probably wouldn't shell out more than $150 or so for one.)
I'm getting serious about wanting to go to Japan next year. I got some money for Christmas and put some of it away for that very purpose, and I have some ideas of how I'm going to make it happen. I'm thinking of going in October, just because I think that timing would work out well--I don't have any conventions then, it's not too busy at work, and it's not the middle of summer. I'm not set on that, but I think it's a good time to aim for, anyway.
I was finally ready to order two things on Amazon: the canopies for my chicken coops, and the Gyutto Eevee plush. The canopies went out of stock and Gyutto Eevee's price went up $10, so for now I'm not ordering either. Gotta get those canopies as soon as I can, though! orz of course they go out of stock as soon as I'm ready to order them!

Dec. 7th, 2013 11:40 pmFinished Oyasumi Punpun tonight. I...have a lot of feelings right now, not all of them things I can easily express. I'm also somewhat confused about some things in relation to the end. Someday I want to read the whole thing again, but realistically I can't say it'll be right away, as much as I'd like to read it all again for the sake of clarification and picking up on things I missed. I'll have to emotionally prepare myself first, but I think I will read it again when I can.
As a warning, the manga gets extremely dark later in the story, so please be aware of that going into it! Dark, violent, disturbing, and bleak. Honestly, this is one of the more depressing stories I've ever read, and yet it also has these many moments of incredible beauty that took my breath away. I've got to say, despite my mixed feelings about the ending, I feel it is a masterpiece, without a doubt. I think it deserves that.
I'm so glad I decided to read it. Emotionally, I'm rather drained, though.

Oyasumi Punpun
Dec. 5th, 2013 12:14 amI haven't read much manga in a while. I love manga, I just never get around to reading it for some reason! I should read the manga for Chihayafuru and Shingeki no Kyojin at some point, though...
But anyway, I heard good things about Oyasumi Punpun and found myself intrigued, so I decided to start reading it. I'm almost five volumes in now and I utterly love it! It's melancholy, but filled with a lot of truth and beauty. The art is fantastic, too. I definitely recommend it. Even in the first volume, I was already emotionally involved. Apparently it ends on December 27th, so I suppose I picked a good time to start reading it.
Expecting another gigantic Pokémon box! It's probably leaving Japan right about now, so it should be here Monday or something, maybe Saturday if I get lucky. Like the last one, there's a fair amount of random lots of things so it'll be fun to dig around in. I hope I'll find some good stuff to keep as well as some good things to sell! I'm trying to buy my chickens $200 worth of kennel covers, so if sales go well that will be a huge help. I also have a big box from Gin on the way!
I always think I'd like to send holiday cards to everyone, and I really would, but I never end up doing it! It drives me crazy. The problem is this: I want to spend forever on each card, personalizing it, writing a long message, finding extras that fit with each person, and by the time I make one or two I've taken forever and tend to exhaust myself doing this kind of thing. I have a hard time going more minimalist, too, ahhh. Oh well. Maybe someday I can show some restraint... e_____e

Nov. 16th, 2013 08:16 pmWow, having some good luck today on getting Eevee evolution stuff!
I held off on buying two sets of things I wanted because they were too expensive, but now my waiting paid off!
First I won 12 Pokédoll figures (including all the Eeveelutions except Vaporeon) for 1200 yen! I can't believe it went for so low. And then, I just got a BIN of 12 of the theater keychains (including all the Eeveelutions except Flareon) for 1890 yen. I can pick up the missing ones whenever, not too rushed about that, but...anyway, I'm really pleased to get both of those because I was worried no more sets of them would pop up at all, much less for pretty cheap. And both sets have at least a few extra figures I can sell off, to make the sets even cheaper.
I'm getting closer to being caught up on the Eeveelution madness, though I've still got a few sets to pick up when I can afford them. I'm not going for all the Eeveelution sets right away, some I'm just happy with getting Umbreon, but I like to get the sets whenever I can afford it because I do collect all the Eeveelutions, just not as insanely as I do Umbreon.
Tomorrow I plan to list some TCG on Ebay! I hope they sell well. I have some Pokémon that are pretty popular, so hopefully they will. :D

Nov. 13th, 2013 01:09 pmAhh, I want to post all the things I got, but it's still really overwhelming to do, so if I do it it'll be in small bits and pieces.
Anyway, these are (what I believe to be) train advertisements that I got in my package! They're made of sturdy cardboard, and fairly large as you can see from the comparison with Umbreon. The Ash, Iris, and Dento ones seem to be for the tsunami relief as far as I can tell! My pictures aren't very good so you can't see that well, but it says Japanese Red Cross of Japan and Love in Action at the bottom on those.

I'm not sure if I actually want to sell them, unless someone gave me a good offer. I think they're pretty awesome. :D I'll have to take better pictures of them soon, as these are illegible at their current size.
Also, I got them a bit ago, but here's my 1/1 Kalos starters!

I want to take a picture of them with all my 1/1 starters, but most of my 1/1s are in a closet right now and it's hard to get them out! So, I'll have to do that sometime when I have time to dig around in the closet and stuff.

Nov. 12th, 2013 01:22 pmI got my box in! It is literally big enough for me to sit in and have plenty of room, haha, and the box weighed like 70 lbs or something crazy like that!
There were some really amazing/interesting things in it! One of the things I wasn't expecting at all is that I got some Japanese train advertisements for post-tsunami support and ads! I don't know how I would sell them (and I will keep some) but they're really amazing! They're thick cardboard and in great shape. That's something you don't find every day, and there are six of them, all with different designs!
And the cards! Omfg, I'm overwhelmed by the cards. I bought this huge card lot and it is incredible. Whoever was collecting this was insane to just put it up for as little as I won it for--it must have taken at least $1000-2000 to gather these all, if not a lot more than that. The cards are 95% in mint condition and there are hundreds and hundreds of holos. Almost every holo and rare came in quantities of like 3-8 each, so I can keep whatever I want and not feel guilty because there are tons more left over to sell. I just have to figure out how to sell them on Ebay--splitting them into lots and scanning them is going to be the challenge! @____@ But I should be able to make a lot of money--there are so many!
One of the figure lots I bought was a disappointment, though--everything is in really bad shape, and a lot of Pokémon are missing major body parts. XD Oh well...
Anyway, I feel pretty overwhelmed at the moment, especially because I want to post as much of this stuff for sale as possible, but...ahhh, I'll figure it out!

Nov. 6th, 2013 12:47 pmHmmm, things are going pretty decently lately~
I've surpassed 20k in NaNoWriMo last night, so it shouldn't take me very long to finish this year, assuming I can keep up this pace. The misery for my characters is beginning... I can't decide if I'm excited to write the misery (because, hey, it beats boring and it keeps the words flowing--I'm also pretty good at writing misery), or kinda distressed about it, because I love my characters and they've had it reasonably easy so far. The story itself is at over 70k now, which makes it the longest story I've ever written. I was thinking I wouldn't be able to finish it in another 50k, but now I think I might be able to, or at least get close. It's a bit hard to say, as it really depends how I choose to pace the story.
I'm currently waiting for Noppin to package my stuff. I requested shipping almost two weeks ago with a note of when I get my paycheck, and I hoped they'd have the package ready by the time my paycheck went through, but they haven't packaged it yet. I sent a message, so hopefully that will speed up the process. Not worried or anything, and I've never had any complaints with Noppin, I'm just impatient to get my stuff. +____+ I'm so excited to get that package! I also won a few more exciting things recently, including a really nice plush lot and a new Ash and Pikachu cel.
It's from a fairly significant scene, where Ash and Pikachu say goodbye to Ritchie at the end of the Pokémon League. I recognized it instantly and decided to go after it!

I won't have it for a while--maybe a month or so, at least--because it's not among the things I requested shipping on, but I'm happy I won it.
Feeling pretty optimistic about things for now. The Corgi Faire is this upcoming Sunday, and that's going to be a ton of fun! I've got to bathe the corgis and figure out what to have them wear...

Oct. 29th, 2013 09:19 pmI went to Snafu Con with some friends, and had a fun time! The con itself seemed pretty chill, but I didn't do much at it besides Artist's Alley. That said, Artist's Alley was quite a success. I was just hoping to break even on the prints and my part of the table ($30), but instead I ended up paying for the entire trip and beyond, even with spending a good chunk of money on food! It's a pretty nice feeling coming home from a con with more than you arrived with, and this is becoming a more and more common occurrence for me. We had some difficulties with check-in, to put it mildly, but it ended up worth it. It was pretty odd, but also somewhat convenient, to attend a con in a casino. It was nice because there were lots of restaurants and whatnot, though I wish there had been a less expensive buffet (though the $24 one was really good). I wish my two friends who had originally planned on going could have gone, but I made some new friends and we had a great time together.
I think I forgot to post about them here, but I caught shiny Skrelp (via chain fishing) and a shiny Lampent (encounter in Friend Safari) in X/Y! I'm really excited to train them, and also hope to find more shinies as time goes by! It certainly seems easier to come across them in X/Y, which I think is both a good and bad thing. I haven't had as much time to play X/Y lately as I'd like--just so busy--but of course with Pokémon games I'll probably be playing it heavily for a long time, so it's not really a problem.
NaNoWriMo starts in about 48 hours and I feel unprepared, ahhh! I don't need to do a lot of prep work, seeing as I'm just continuing a fanfic I got 50k on the year before last, but still...! I gotta at least read over my 50k and get some feeling of where I'm going next. I hope I can get a good amount done on the story this November. I'd be so proud to finish this story, though with how little I got done in the 50k, I have a feeling it's gonna be very long...
1/1 Fennekin arrived, and it's so big and soft and adorable! I wanted to get a picture of it with Honey, but this proved to be more difficult than anticipated, haha. Chespin and Froakie are on their way as well, though USPS tracking is stupid and hasn't worked for something like two weeks now, maybe more. This is going to make waiting for my EMS package (which I'm paying for as soon as I get my paycheck and it processes in the bank) nearly unbearable and very frustrating.
That EMS package is going to be a treasure trove of goodies! I'm soooo excited to open it!
I also won this puzzle:

The thing with this puzzle is, I had this image and several others on my computer around 11-12 years ago, presumably scans someone posted somewhere. I really loved those puzzle images, though I didn't know what they were from. I was so excited to see this again, because I love this piece of art and it's been ages since I've seen it. Also, unique official Umbreon art is always exciting to find! I hope someday I'll find the others. I'll scan this image once I get it, though it might be a while because I won it after requesting shipping for my other auctions.

Oct. 19th, 2013 09:00 pmI have been busy this week! I worked quite a bit in comparison to how much I normally work, and then I also petsat for a few days. I was without my computer last night so I went on a Pokémon Y spree, which resulted in me beating the Elite 4! My Pokémon were quite overleveled so it wasn't much of a challenge, but I love the new Elite 4 members and Champion, and the rooms they were in are so pretty! I also loved the ending of the story and the ending theme. Both really, really sweet. I still think B/W has the best plotline overall, but X/Y's was great, too! I'm in love with my Y version. It's really a magnificent game and I think it'll keep me occupied for a very long time. Best Pokémon game yet? Yeah, I think so.
Current team:
- Frillster, Heliolisk, level 81, M
- Ribbons, Sylveon, level 82, F
- Adelaide, Delphox, level 79, F
- Peregrine, Talonflame, level 77, F
- Hedgington, Gogoat, level 81, F
- Tundra, Aurorus, level 81, F
I love them all! Heliolisk's dance in Amie is ADORABLE. My trainer is also super cute! I keep changing her outfit because there's several to choose from. Her trademark is a red flower on her hat, though, like the one on my Pikachu character of the same name, and I think I'm going to keep her hair orange and bobbed.
Gonna make a separate post about some other stuff, just because I don't want to ramble in one gigantic post.

Oct. 13th, 2013 11:43 amSo, I have Y version and it is AMAZING. Totally and completely in love with it! Certainly my favorite game so far. There is an incredible amount of things to do, and the graphics are utterly gorgeous. I'm impressed by how many Pokémon there are to catch all over everywhere. The social/internet aspects of the game are so effortless, too!
I have 13.5 hours in the game already and I'm currently on route 11, and my team is nowhere near set in stone (I need a Sylveon, among other things--though I just started running into Eevees so that won't be long), but right now it is:
Hedgington, F Skiddo, lv 30
Frillster, M Helioptile, lv 27
Peregrine, F Talonflame, lv 36
Adelaide, F Braixen, lv 34
(Needs a name), F Amaura, lv 26
Fiesta, F Hawlucha, lv 22
There are so many Pokémon I want to train, though, and not enough slots! Nooo. Well, eventually I'll get to training everything I want.
Release was a lot of fun! I went to my friend Nico's house in Sacramento and we went to the Walmart midnight release. It turns out he lives next to the Japanese grocery store, so we went there beforehand and got snacks. His girlfriend is really sweet, too.
On the way down to Sacramento, I went to TRU and discovered a wealth of Pokémon toys, so I bought a big Fennekin plush, small Fennekin and Chespin plush, and a Fennekin figure. Good thing there was a buy one, get 40% off the next one sale!
I have 13.5 hours in the game already and I'm currently on route 11, and my team is nowhere near set in stone (I need a Sylveon, among other things--though I just started running into Eevees so that won't be long), but right now it is:
Hedgington, F Skiddo, lv 30
Frillster, M Helioptile, lv 27
Peregrine, F Talonflame, lv 36
Adelaide, F Braixen, lv 34

Fiesta, F Hawlucha, lv 22

Oct. 10th, 2013 12:05 amSo, as I said before, I've been watching Breaking Bad to pass the time before X/Y. This was an excellent strategy, as it made the time fly by when previously it felt like everything was going at a crawl. I finished it tonight! I'm feeling kind of emotionally drained. It was quite a ride, and it ended pretty much how I felt it needed to from the beginning.
( Spoilers for Breaking Bad. Ramblings, not particularly articulate or meaningful so you've been warned. )
Really, an utterly fantastic show. If you haven't seen it and can handle intensity and violence, I highly recommend you give it a shot.
On another note...

Oct. 1st, 2013 09:37 pmWe are in OCTOBER now and we're getting so so so close to X/Y! I have plans to drive down to Sacramento on the 11th, stay with a fellow Pokémon fan friend and his girlfriend, and I'm picking up my game at midnight! Totally excited!
I am having internal conflicts, though, in regards to spoilers! I'm trying to stay in the middle as far as spoilers go--I don't want to abstain from all spoilers, but I also don't want to know a ton so I can have lots and lots of surprises! Now that the game is officially out and about (thanks Canada and Italy), it's getting more challenging to figure out how to maintain this balance. ;_____; Part of me wants to rush in and see all the spoilers that are posted, another part of me is like, "Noooo, leave it for release date!" So, I dunno what to do. For now, I guess I'm just skimming over the spoilers so I get the gist, but not the details.
Time before release date was crawling by and I got frustrated at how slowly it was moving, so I decided to throw myself into something to pass the time. And that thing is...Breaking Bad! Ohhh man. My brother has been trying to get me to watch it for a while now, but with all the furor over the ending, finally I was like, "You know what? I'm just gonna watch it now." I started it yesterday, I'm on season 2 episode 7, and I gotta say it is quite excellent so far. Those first few episodes, though. And now I'm trying to maintain another balance: Not spending my entire life on Breaking Bad for now.
I also decided to read the Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan manga because I've read that there was a lot the anime left out or changed. I don't know if I'll get to it before X/Y, but that's my other plan!
I bought a big lot of Japanese Pokémon cards last night. It was too good of a deal to pass up. 1,500+ cards, 500+ holographic. Coro Coro shining Mew included (which will cover probably almost half the cost of the lot by itself), and eleven deck boxes, seven binders along with them. It's been a while since I bought cards... It's going to be really fun to sort through them! I'll probably keep some and sell the rest. I got some other nice small/medium lots of plush and figures, too, in the past week or two. Mostly for things I wanted in the lots, but of course having some things to resell isn't bad either. Last year during the holidays I actually made a decent amount with local sales, and hopefully this year will be similar! Then of course there's anime convention swap meets, and some online sales.
Anyway, back to Breaking Bad I suppose!

Sep. 25th, 2013 08:07 pmAh, the Umbreon mirage plush got away from me... I'm disappointed, but I was basically expecting that was going to happen. I would have LOVED to win it, but it would have made my finances really tight for the next month if I had won it for even half of what it's at now, so in a way it's a slight relief. I have a new Umbreon grail, though, and I intend to find it someday, somehow!
Go figure something like this would pop up after I got my other Umbreon grail! But, I guess part of the fun in being a collector is the hunt. The challenge of this is that it's something I almost certainly would never find on Y!J, so I'm not sure where to start.
Sometimes there just comes a point where you have to say, "I can't do this. I have to be realistic." That's just how it is.
Another day, mirage Umbreon!
