2013 Retrospective
Dec. 31st, 2013 06:27 pmShaping up to be another boring New Year's Eve, haha. I'm trying to talk mom into going to dinner but she keeps saying "It's not very exciting!"
But mom, the alternative is sitting around at home? I think it's at least more exciting than that. @____@
Anyway, other than that and being a little tired, I'm doing pretty well. I'm very optimistic about 2014!
1. Your main fandom of the year:
Pokémon of course! Honorary mentions go to: Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Breaking Bad, Chihayafuru, Shingeki no Kyojin, Free!, Oyasumi Punpun, Shinsekai Yori, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Kill La Kill. I actually watched a lot of great anime this year, though most of them don't have much in the way of fandoms.
2. Your favorite film this year:
Wolf Children, without a doubt.
3. Your favorite book read this year:
Oyasumi Punpun, if manga counts as a book. Oh man...
4. Your favorite album or song this year:
Sakura Nagashi and the first Shingeki no Kyojin theme!
5. Your favorite TV show this year:
Chihayafuru 2, Shinsekai Yori, Shingeki no Kyojin, Free!, Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei, and more!
6. Your favorite LJ community this year:
pkmncollectors is practically the only living LJ community, LOL. It's my favorite anyway so it's all good.
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year:
See the honorary list in main fandoms, minus Chihayafuru, which I watched the first series of in 2012.
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year:
POKÉMON BANK WHEN?
9. Your fandom boyfriend of the year:
Armin, all the Free! boys, Taichi from Chihayafuru!
10. Your fandom girlfriend of the year:
Ryuko from Kill La Kill, Chihaya from Chihayafuru, Nowie from Fire Emblem: Awakening!
11. Your biggest squee moment of the year:
MEETING YOKO KANNO, DUHHHH, SEEING YOKO KANNO AGAIN IN CONCERT, RELEASE OF POKÉMON X/Y!
12. Your most missed old fandom:
I never really get out of my old fandoms, aside from a few...
13. Your fandom that you haven't tried yet, but want to:
I have lots of anime I plan on watching!
14. Your biggest anticipations of the new year:
Space Dandy, whatever other good anime comes out, any new Pokémon games maybe (though I'll be playing X/Y for a long time so it's all good if not)!
---
1. What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
MET YOKO KANNO! Played X/Y! Went to two out of state conventions! Ran a panel, sold in Artist's Alley! Reached 100,000 words on one story! Got to help my favorite author out! Played more video games than I normally do! Met several online friends I hadn't met before! A blog I run surpassed 5,000 followers!
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I wanted to go to Japan and didn't, but what I did was even better! This year I really do plan on going to Japan unless something crazy happens.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin Julianna. D: (I never would have predicted this last year!)
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Tons of my animals, ugh. I don't even know why, as the deaths were all unrelated and all but one weren't preventable. It was just a really, really rough year for animal losses, and I'm still reeling from it. I miss them all so much. RIP Zephyr, Cally, Birch, Royal, un-named serama rooster, Pen-Pen, Eugenie, Mango, Apple Bloom, Ivory, Ahiru, Kiisa, Hanabi, Vanilla, Constantinople, Sable, Pandora, and Rocky.
5. What countries did you visit?
Just stayed in the US this year. I went to Maryland and Nevada, though!
6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
2013 was better for my social life than 2012 (that's not saying much...), but I'd still like a better social life. And more artistic productivity!

Meeting Yoko Kanno, Yoko Kanno concert, just Otakon in general, and the release of Pokémon X/Y!

YOKO KANNOOOOOOOO!
9. What was your biggest failure?
Too much feeling blah, not enough going out and doing stuff and making art.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got super sick on my birthday, which was awful! I also got rather sick after my Otakon trip, though it was totally worth it.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Aside from Otakon trip related things... POKÉMON X/Y, UMBREON POKÉMON MINI STRAP, more cels, just collection stuff in general!
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My friends are all great! And Wendy Davis!
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Much of the United States, especially regarding gun control and race issues and reproductive rights and the politicians.

Date: 2014-01-03 03:28 am (UTC)I'm sad that I didn't see Wolf Children when I had the chance. I put in a purchase request at my library, but I don't know if they'll actually buy it. Aside from a few Miyazaki films, they don't have many anime movies.
