You know you're a real geek when you start writing down notes about Pokémon language-to-Japanese subtitles and the speech patterns revealed. Not that it's really helpful information for anything other than maybe fanfiction, but I'm the sort of odd person who finds it somewhat interesting. I've always liked finding out more nuances about how Pokémon think/talk/refer to themselves, etc.

I just watched Island of the Giant Pokémon in Japanese and reading the Pokémon language-to-Japanese subtitles, I found out these things:

* Pikachu uses "boku"
* Zenigame and Fushigidane both use "ore"
* No one else used personal pronouns. :(
* Hitokage referred to Zenigame as "Zenigame-kun"
* When trying to speak to the giant Kamex, Zenigame called him "aniki"! This especially amuses me because of course Zenigame was the one who had the Kamina-esque glasses.

How I adore that episode! I have it on DVD (and I think I have the Japanese version somewhere) and now you've tempted me to watch it :D

I love it, too! I remember watching it so many times when I was a kid! You should watch it in Japanese, it's fun. :3

"I remember watching it so many times when I was a kid!"

Now I feel old! I was about 16 or 17 when I first saw it :D (Though I bought the DVDs/downloaded a lot of it when I was well into my 20s!)

Where are you watching your Japanese episodes? :O Cuz my sis and I always look for them, but find very few sites that host them.

So in that episode, the Pokemon are actually speaking human?

pocketmonsters.edwark.info has torrents for subbed episodes. :D Only up until the Pokémon Tower episode but I'm sure they'll eventually add more~

No, they're speaking Pokémon language, but it has Japanese subtitles (and then English subtitles translating the Japanese subtitles). I was just reading the Japanese subtitles to get the information I posted.
