Got the female corgi out of the shelter! It was disgusting there--smelled awful, all the runs were wet from the rain, and there were up to four dogs in a run. There was a horribly emaciated pointer there with all his bones sticking out in one run. :( The corgi was in the first run again with a small gray dog. In fact, I was surprised how many small dogs there were because normally it's a bit hard to find small dogs in shelters.
Since I got her out of the carrier, she's been wagging her body and snuggling up to me and insisting on having her belly scratched endlessly while she smiles and closes her eyes. She really likes human contact and even came up with the bed on me when I got on it, and now she's asleep on the bed a few feet away. She keeps doing this hilarious little growly-howl thing that's really cute. On examination, she is not spayed and has had pups fairly recently (within the last few months). Her teeth are very clean--I'll be surprised if she's more than two years old. We're going to get her spayed soon and get her vaccinated if she hasn't been vaccinated already. Hana and Hooch haven't gotten a chance to meet her except through the sliding-glass window, but I hope they get get along peacefully when we introduce them. Female dogs can sometimes be a bit iffy with each other, so we'll see how she does with Hana. She seems so thankful to be out of the shelter and I haven't seen a hint of aggression so far.
(Okay, now she's lying next to me grabbing my hand with her paws so she can lick it!)
Mom and I named her Honey because it just works for her. :)
No idea if she's staying or we'll adopt her out yet. Mom is fairly adamant that we're going to find her a home, but given some time that could change. We'll see, we'll see. Why yes, I might be scheming a little... >D
Pictures later, probably of all three dogs! I need to find some batteries for my camera first and I need to give her a bath because she smells like shelter.

My cat Mog does something similar. She grabs your hand and uses it to pet herself.
Fingers crossed you'll be able to keep her!

Date: 2009-05-01 09:09 pm (UTC)She sounds sweet! Corgi's are freaking adorable, I'd always wanted one (still kind of do). I fell in love with Goldens a couple years back though, and got a golden puppy, then of course I wanted him a playmate and older role model, so I ended up getting two male 7 year old Goldens from Craigslist (they were brothers about to be dumped in a shelter, I couldn't bear to separate them ;_;), so no more dogs for me for a bit, the vet bills with these 3 and my cats is already amazingly high. Hell, it's over $30 a month just in flea/heartworm preventative for the dogs, and my youngest Golden has food allergies, so he has to eat special super expensive food.
I'm sure someday I'll get another dog though, when (God willing years from now) Rocky and Peyton have passed on for Prince (my youngest) to play with, and I've though about searching the rescues for a Corgi or Corgi mix when that time comes, they're just awesome big dogs in a small package, haha. I always loved playing with the ones we had staying at the Pethotel, they were a blast.
Congrats again though, it's awesome she'll actually have a happy life now, and sorry to say it, but I'm glad she bit one of those little bastards, because it made a better life for her possible. ^^;

Date: 2009-05-01 09:49 pm (UTC)I WISH I LIVED NEAR YOU SO I COULD PLAY WITH HER. ;A; AND HOOCH, AND ALL YOUR OTHER ANIMALS. You are so lucky!
I love how corgis wiggle their whole body. :3 Sammy is part corgi, and I used to think he did that because he's fat, but it sounds like it's a corgi thing, haha. He also loves to roll over and get belly rubs.
Hauuu, if you do end up giving her away, I wish I could take her.... Even if I was able to come up there, there's most likely no way I'd be allowed to take her. ;A; uguu~
