Hooch!

On Friday we headed up to Carson City and adopted Hooch! He's a smaller than average purebred tricolor Pembroke Welsh Corgi who was born in a puppy mill. Debby, the lady we adopted him from, found him in a pet store covered in his own waste missing patches of his hair. Thankfully she took him in and, with a great many veterinary visits, managed to solve the problem of the missing hair and he was able to grow up happy and healthy. :) He's two years old in May. I've decided--for reasons obvious to anyone who knows me well--to give him a birthday of May 28th because there's no way we'll know his real birthday though he was most likely born in May 2007.

He's extremely adorable and sweet and I just love him! Other than having a few little accidents in the house (which is normal for a dog making a transition like this) we haven't had any problems with him! He loves all people and follows me everywhere, cuddles with me on the couch and in bed, he's great both on and off the leash, gets along with our animals including Hana, and he's overall just a fantastic and adorable little guy. :D

It's so awesome finally having a corgi! I've wanted one for years and years.

We might change his name because we don't particularly like the name Hooch, but we're not sure because he's had this name since he was a little pup.

On the way back from getting him, my mom's car's alternator went out and we had to have it towed to an auto repair place in Carson City and get it fixed and everything. As a result, we got back rather late. And yesterday we were in Davis visiting my Grandma for her 86th birthday, and again we got back late.

I did start watching the spring anime (finally)! I'll have to write a separate entry about that later. :D

I'm so busy lately! I need to start my Umbreon head when the foam I ordered arrives, print and draw refs for said Umbreon cosplay to run by the fabric store tomorrow, package for a shipping run tomorrow, call about Fanime hotels (I REALLY need to stop procrastinating on this, seriously), work on and preferably finish the art exchange piece, clean the guinea pig cage, and other things I'm sure. @A@

Yes, that's what I'm thinking! If it weren't for that female corgi I lost, there's no way I would have heard about Hooch. He actually hasn't had it that rough because he's had a good home with his rescuer since he was a puppy, but I'm sure his puppy days were difficult. I can't help but wonder if his parents are still alive, if they're still sitting in a cage popping out puppies, and so on... I might use him to educate people about puppy mills, actually, so perhaps that's why I was supposed to get him.

I'm looking forward to starting it! I only have a little over a month to finish it, so I'd better start it ASAP.

Thank you! He's really adorable, and he has a lovely coat. :D He got so lucky that a woman who loves corgis happened across him in that pet store, because who knows where he would be otherwise. He's been in a great place for most of his life, thankfully. You can actually still see where the fur was missing on his face, because the new fur grew in slightly discolored.

Thank you! He's really really cute! If you can ever get a corgi, I highly recommend it. They're such fun cute little dogs! Unfortunately it's rather difficult to find them in rescue, but if you're patient one will eventually show up.

And yep--he'll be spoiled rotten here!

Thank you! He's really, really sweet. :D And yeah, it's fun to give them a specific birthday so you can celebrate it and use it to definitely say they're a certain age.

Hahaha, I think of that Hooch as well, which is partly why I kind of want to change the name. He's pretty much the opposite of that Hooch!

I was originally (as in, before I saw him) a little of sad that he's not a sable corgi because that's the "classic" corgi color, but now I think I'm happier with the tricolor! He kind of matches my border collie now and I love the little brown "eyebrows"!

Hee, he really does! He's a happy little guy. :D He likes to wiggle about EVERYTHING. He doesn't have a tail, so he just wiggles his whole body.

I agree that corgi tails are cute, but corgi tails here are almost always docked. :( It's very rare to see corgis with their tails.

some also carry a gene with natural bob tails. i'm not sure if it's because of the constant docking that caused them to just start being born with short tails or what, but i know in some places it's banned so breeders try to find corgis with the bob tail gene to breed.

Yes, I've heard that! I'm not sure whether he was born with the bob tail or not. The docking of the tails can't cause them to genetically change to have short tails, but finding dogs with bob tails and breeding them certainly can. I think it's much more ethical to breed dogs with bob tails than dock them.
