Feb. 19th, 2009 12:15 amI think something weird is up with me lately...
Yesterday I got home and was going to study for my lab exam, but I looked at it for five minutes and decided I needed a nap. Tried to take a nap, couldn't due to some of my medical problems, took a shower, and then got all upset explaining to dad about how little motivation or energy I have to devote to Chemistry and how I was going to fail the lab exam, too. Skip forward later, I got home with mom at 9 PM that night, again tried to study, fell asleep within ten minutes and slept until 6 AM then sort of studied for about two hours before class. Except my energy levels were literally so low at this point that even just copying things down felt like a big task and I just wanted to go back to sleep.
I went and did pretty darn badly on the lab exam, came home, and fell asleep again, slept until midnight, and now I'm up but I still feel utterly drained of energy and like I could just go sleep again. Mind you, this is after a full night's sleep plus an additional eight hours of sleep on top of that.
It is that time of month so I have a feeling that could be part of it, but otherwise I'm baffled.
It's strange, and kind of worrisome. I don't feel up for much of anything. I hope it goes away soon.
If I'm a bit scarce online in the next few days, that's why.

Date: 2009-02-19 09:49 am (UTC)I know what sleep problems are like and wanting to drop off at any moment. I get about 7 hours a night and as long as I'm busy, I don't feel sleepy at all during the day. But if I am at rest for even five minutes, I can very, very easily fall asleep (regardless of where I am and what way I'm sitting), and think I'm mildly narcoleptic. I've tried sleeping more, but that just made the problem worse (anytime I get over 7 hours sleep, I'm exhausted all day).
They boyfriend also had serious sleep problems when he was working night shifts. Because he was sleeping at different times each day, he was exhausted all the time, but since he's been on regular working hours, as long as he gets 6 hours a night, he feels great all day, has good concentration, and even isn't as hungry.
So what I would do before worrying too much about it is set a proper sleep schedule and try to pin down the amount of hours you feel properly rested after. After a few weeks of that, maybe have a wee talk to the doctor about it. You don't want to go on any medication until you know it's definitely not just a sleep schedule issue as sleeping medication can really screw your body over (the boyfriend's been on different stuff a few times and most times made him worse).

Date: 2009-02-19 10:07 am (UTC)Thank you again--this inspires me to start working on my sleep schedule and getting it back to something better!
I still think there might be something else to it at the moment because I've never felt this drained of energy, but it could be the combination of hormones, weird sleep schedule, and stress over my Chemistry class.

I hope it clears up soon. D: I used to have a lot of problems with exhaustion, so I know how unpleasant and disrupting it can be. :(
