Jan. 25th, 2009 10:05 pmAHHH I have so much I need or want to do and so little time to do it! Comments, homework (the lab due tomorrow is NOT getting turned in tomorrow, that's for sure), packaging, artsy stuff, reading/watching things, and so on. D8 Time for a to-do list!
archaneah/KK and I had a nice day today. We went down to Café Mekka in the morning and...uhhh sort of did homework? We only spent about 30% of the time on homework, though, go figure, and the rest talking about fandom/movies/other things and looking at fanart. I helped sign her up for Pixiv for her Earthbound fanart needs, and we just kind of lounged around and drank tea. It was fun, though! At 2:30 PM we went to go see Benjamin Button. For some reason the theater was insane today! Parking was crazy and Benjamin Button was packed. Very unusual for our area.
Benjamin Button was very good! It was a quiet and reflective movie, and I loved the message of it. There was a lot of great acting and I thought quite a few of the characters scattered throughout it were complex and likable. I also liked that it was emotionally subtle, and not overly sentimental. I think, considering the subject matter, it would have been easy for it to get carried away with sentiment and drip with preachy messages about life, but instead it was restrained and much more realistic emotionally than I expected. It still kept kind of a fable feeling at the same time, though, and it was overall a great movie. I can't say why exactly, but for some reason the last scenes of the movie really wrapped up the movie in the right way for me.
They're so different they're not all that comparable, but because they're facing each other in the Oscars I do want to say that I think I preferred Slumdog Millionaire. I think they were made with about an equal amount of care and were around the same level of quality, but I ultimately think I personally preferred Slumdog Millionaire more. I really liked Benjamin Button, though--don't get me wrong! They're both awesome movies. :)
Speaking of Slumdog, I'm hooked on the soundtrack. SO awesome. ♥
