Dec. 20th, 2008 03:25 pmMy sleep schedule is so messed up... I was trying to go to bed early last night and wake up early, but I went to bed at 5 AM, slept through my alarm, and got up at 3 PM. .___. I really want to try to change it. I'd be fine with midnight to 10 AM or something...
Anyway, I had the strangest dream. It's way too weird to put into coherent things like words, but I'm going to try anyway.
The dream begins with me driving back home from school in Rocklin (which I have never done before). I accidentally take the wrong turn and start heading in the opposite direction from home on this rural, kind of foresty road. Suddenly there is chain link fence guiding me off on to this little side road (I have a feeling right away I wasn't supposed to take it, making me uneasy), which has those white concrete things they sometimes put on the side of the road on either side of me, forming a narrow alley. It's scary because it's so narrow and twists and turns a bunch so I have to make these sharp turns and I'm going quite fast. I was very afraid that I would crash. Also, things kept coming down as if trying to signal me--a little green charm, or a certain light or whatever. But I don't know what they're signaling me to do so I just keep turning sharply the best I can.
There are parts missing, but I pull into this big open building that's kind of like a Greyhound bus station I suppose. Dingy-looking. I get out and standing by some bizarre metal railing, where there are some other people. Mostly older than me, but not a whole lot...late twenties, I'd guess? There are two guys there. One of them doesn't say anything, the other guy asks me if I want to go get a hamburger with him (I decline, saying "I'm a vegetarian.") He asks another girl, too. A woman comes out from a door. I don't remember what she looked like at all, but she tells us to follow her into the other room through the door from whence she came. There are maybe fifteen of us now, twenty. All sort of college-age I guess. She shows us into another dingy room with odd railing and whatnot where there is this counter thing. She tells us to take one of each of the handouts (there are a bunch of different piles of handouts).
I go take one of each handout. They're just printed on normal printer paper, and each one has a picture of a "mysterious creature"--except they're not any I've heard of before. They're like the drawings of a child--made up of odd shapes with faces that look out of place. Many are brightly colored, or black with white outlines, and they're all kind of eerie in the sense that...they don't make any biological sense or anything. Like a child's drawings, as I was saying. None of the papers have any explanation on what they are, and there are at least fifteen or twenty of them. I gather them all and then it's like I don't have them any more after that.
The rest of the dream is so strange it's hard to describe, but I'll try.
Me and the rest of the class, as by now this seems to have taken on the semblance of a teacher and class, go into this strange old house that is attached to the other two buildings (though we never see the other two again). The house is old, and just big enough to comfortably have all of us in it. There is something very...wrong about the house. There are strange things everywhere, brightly-colored objects and things moving that shouldn't be and the architecture is kind of weird. There's a big room coming off the main hallway, which is where we are all gathered for lessons. The teacher woman explains that she is training us to use more of our senses at once than normal, or something to that effect.
It feels to me like some sort of weird religion or...cult, I guess. She tells us something like "If you see [a certain thing] while driving, you have to hum a song loudly; if you see [another certain thing] while driving, you have to hum a song vaguely" and so on with different items/signs and tasks assigned to them. Suddenly the haphazard road there makes slightly more sense. Between her lecturing us about these things, the class is allowed to go outside. I look around and there's forest everywhere, and a graveyard down the little unpaved road to the side. I ask one of the other people with me where we are, and she says a bunch of strange, technical things that I can't understand at all. I do gather that we're in Oregon, though I have no clue how I got there. I begin thinking of escaping, but somehow I am weirdly prevented from thinking about it too much. Like something weird will appear when I think about it or...something.
I can't help but worry about how long I'll be trapped there, and while in that room (which has a fireplace and comfy couches/chairs in it) I call her to tell her that I'm stuck somewhere and I'm not sure when I'll be home. My ringtone goes off at some point (It's Ride on Shooting Star by the pillows) and the teacher says something like, "Oh, I love the pillows!" which is surprising. At some point I have a revelation that I'm going to have to stay in this house overnight, which is stressful to me because I have classes to get to and I don't want to be there in the first place. She is going to have us do driving tests the next day at high speed like when I get there at first, and we would be expected to react quickly and correctly to the "symbols" while driving, and other scary/strange things I can't remember. I don't remember the night I spent there at all, and the next day I think I escape (I remember running toward the graveyard and then up toward where the highway was) but it's all very vague.
Ah, I didn't capture this dream well... It was wayyy weirder and more complex than it sounds, but now enough has faded from it that I can't really describe it well. Also it was too downright weird to be explained in the first place, I think. Ahhhh I wish I could, though, it was so strange. Oh well.

Date: 2008-12-21 12:41 am (UTC)Yeah, I'm trying to fix my sleep schedule too. Especially since it gets dark so early, I want to get up before 1pm... sheesh. >_>

Date: 2008-12-21 01:04 am (UTC)I'm not sure what the purpose of remembering the symbols and reacting to them was, either. I wish I could have explained the dream better--it was just so downright bizarre and about ten times more complex than what I wrote.
Good luck with your sleep schedule as well! Mine is just so, so messed up, I really need to start changing it now. :/
