I sat down and watching Into the Wild tonight (which we picked up on a whim at Blockbuster), and ended up really loving it. Chris McCandless' journey--at least how it was depicted in the movie--was all at once enlightening, foolish, tragic, and exuberant. Simultaneously stupid and admirable. It was quite a beautiful (both physically and storytelling-wise) and moving movie, and its final scenes were haunting and a bit difficult to watch. Anyway, I enjoyed it a lot. It was a bit long and rambling but it definitely had enough to offer for its length.

Speaking of nature, dad and I went on a nice hike over by the 49er Bridge today. I took quite a few pictures, so I'll post some if any of them turned out particularly noteworthy.

After watching Into the Wild, for some reason the words flowed quite nicely today on my novel. I had less than an hour before midnight (I always update my word count about a minute before bedtime), but I managed to get in at least 1500 words (more importantly, words that I was pretty happy with) in that time. Not bad... I'm almost to 18K now!

Other than that, not a whole lot going on. I'm really hoping my Shopping Mall Japan box arrives tomorrow so I can do some sales and because it'll be a big, fun box to open yayyy!, and um. I'm glad I have one day left of the weekend! 8D

I need to get back on replying to the book thread. Thanks to everyone who participated--it's interesting to hear what your tastes are all like! ♥

The graduation scene was filmed at my college. I'm one of the graduates.

Yes, I had trouble sleeping last night as a result of it as well! It offered a lot to think about, and I loved how ambiguous it was in how it portrayed the protagonist. It just gives you what he did and how he lived, and ultimately it leaves it up the viewer to decide whether how he lived was noble or foolish or a bit of both. And some of the scenes were just so beautiful or so haunting, even if they were simple, simple scenes. It was sort of awe-inspiring and disturbing at the same time.

Thanks! Yep, it's going pretty nicely at the moment, though we'll see because week two is famously difficult.
