Jun. 13th, 2008 12:40 pmOne of the towhees died last night. I haven't the faintest idea why--last night he was hopping around the room as fast as he could go, testing out his wings, randomly jumping on Mystery Bird, and was the most upbeat, happy bird you'd ever see. He'd been on the proper dose of antibiotics for a week like directed, he was eating fine, he looked great, and I'm not sure what caused his death. I'm pretty disappointed about it because I had him for a week and had grown rather fond of him in that time (plus I'm at a total loss as to why he died), but...well, it happens. Nothing I can do but accept it. At least he had a really great, fun, exciting week of life before he went.
RIP, little towhee.
Now I must go clean with my mom! We're doing some work on our (frankly, quite terrifying) garage right now. o__o;

Date: 2008-06-15 09:46 am (UTC)We did great in the garage, and found a LOT of really interesting, odd things. Even when it's hard work, at least you get rewarded in that fun way.

Date: 2008-06-15 09:49 am (UTC)And thanks. ♥ I like to think it makes a difference in the world, even if it's a small one. Coping gets a little hard from time-to-time because you start to realize the incredible frailty of life, and it can be a little scary in the long run when death becomes something routine to deal with. Generally, though, if you get a bird in and it just dies within twenty-four hours, it's not a huge deal. This is their second chance after all--almost 100% of the birds we get in would be dead if not for us, so if they die it's just how they would have been without us anyway. It's kind of a jaded perspective to take, but it helps you put things in perspective when you deal with it like we do.
