Feb. 14th, 2008 11:27 pmNow that there's only a half-hour of it left...
Happy Valentine's Day, f-list! ♥ I know a lot of people get mopey or sad (or, alternatively, angry or cynical) about this holiday, but, uh, in my opinion it's just another excuse to eat a lot of candy. I can't say I'll generally argue with excuses to eat candy.
Well, I was going to write a whole entry, but I just stumbled across the news that the Pillows are most likely playing in San Francisco again a few days after my birthday, so my excitement has wiped away everything I was going to say. ♥_♥ OH, PILLOWS, WHY ARE YOU SO AMAZING? I'm totally lurking around and waiting for tickets to go on sale so I can snatch some up and commence freaking out. *__*
The only problem is now I'm going to be all crazy over this until I have my tickets purchased. *A*
Also, the doctor revealed today that I have gallstones. Um, yep. If the pain doesn't recur, I don't think much is going to happen, but if it does start happening again, bye bye gall bladder. I haven't actually talked to the doctor about it yet, but I must say, I'm relieved we actually know what's going on for once.
I dissected a clam today. It was rather unexciting. I liked the baby octopuses in a jar better.
Now to go stare at the Pillows concert page as if a development will randomly occur.

Date: 2008-02-15 08:14 am (UTC)My initial thought about you having gallstones and having it taken out should not have been - 'Wow, I wonder if she gets to keep those...'
(To which, I know you can't probably because of insurance reasons - XD I asked the doctor if I could keep my tonsils when I was 6, and was very disappointed that the answer was, 'No, I'm sorry. They have to go to a lab where they can be studied...')
Clams are kind of boring. The most exciting thing I've done was a cat and then a dogfish shark.

Date: 2008-02-15 08:19 am (UTC)Yes, I've dissected cats, too, for an anatomy class in high school. It is terribly interesting getting to dissect more complex animals. (A dog shark sounds quite interesting!) Our next dissection is on an earthworm, though. Not very exciting. We're working our way up, though--hopefully there will be some better dissections later in the semester.

Date: 2008-02-15 08:24 am (UTC)I've got about 7 from animals - all from struvite crystals.
Yeah, we did cats for our anatomy class. The smaller dissections can still be fun, but don't compare in ANY way to the more complex species. We did a stingray, too, now that I think of it.
Prior to that between anatomy, marine science and biology, we did clams, earthworms, starfish, perch, mackeral, sea lampreys, eels, dogfish sharks, cats, fetal pigs, frogs, grasshoppers, crawfish and squid - I think that might have been it.
In middle school (my first exposure to dissection), we only had organs, but they were from adult pigs - I got to stick my finger through the aorta of a pig heart, which was ones of the most enriching experiences I've ever had in my life - (quite influential too - it assured me medicine was the way to go. XD)

Date: 2008-02-16 01:24 am (UTC)Candy is the best thing about Valentine's Day. :D
YOU SHOULD! I'll try to let you know when the tickets go on sale so you can hopefully grab some. They're SO AMAZING in concert, OMFG. ♥ Their concert I went to in 2005 was literally the best night of my life, I'm pretty sure.

Date: 2008-02-16 02:32 am (UTC)Oh, when's your birthday? That's an awesome coincidence, I hope you get to go.
Baby... octopuses. :O
In my zoology&botany class I dissected clams and stuff. We did squids too and extracted their.. um... pen thing, the carapace? *WOW I LEARNED A LOT DIDN'T I* and wrote with their ink. kinda morbid but fun. and then we fried them as kalimari (spelling?). :PPPPP

Date: 2008-02-16 03:43 am (UTC)My birthday is March 14th! I'm fairly sure I'll be able to go--it's just a matter of getting tickets, which haven't been posted yet. I'm going to be closely monitoring it, though, so I don't miss out. >D Are you familiar with The Pillows?
Baby octopuses are cute, even when they're preserved in jars. XDDD That sounds like a fun (albeit a little bit odd, hahaha, writing with their ink and eating them?) dissection! I haven't dissected a squid yet, though I'd like to.
