Nov. 10th, 2007 10:50 amI'm ridiculously overprotective of my Yoko Kanno CDs, so I spent most of yesterday going through all of them, ripping them to my computer, and burning them so I can return the originals to their jewel cases. I literally did this from 11 AM to 5 PM, and now I'm doing it even more. XD This...is going to take a while. It's been surprisingly fun, though, because it's helping me discover tracks I had forgotten about, and if the original CD has scratches (T_T NOOOO ARJUNA CD WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE SCRATCHES?) it somehow seems to fix that while ripping it. So my CDs will be back to being skip-less.
Also, I won't have to worry about them being stolen, scratched, etc., because I can always just burn another copy. :D
Also, my friends and I had our NaNoWriMo write-in at Mekka last night! I had so much fun. We were there for more than four hours, and it just flew by. It consisted of myself, Aubrey, Ellery, Shannon, and Shannon's older sister (whose name escapes me at the moment). We had a blast writing, talking about NaNoWriMo is affecting our mind, reading random lines from our stories and then horribly misinterpreting them out of context, and overall just having an excellent time. :D It went so well! I think we all felt better about our novels by the time we left Mekka.
I'm at 18K, by the way (and I'll be at 20K by tonight!), and it's going fabulously. I think Crow is starting his mental breakdown faster than I thought, and Magpie is already beginning to have weird hallucinations of birds talking to him.
Oh man, I walked down to Mekka from Dad's house (it's about a mile down the hill), and it was an interesting walk. There are parts of the road where there's really nowhere to walk, so I was so worried I was going to get run over. Plus, it was dark out, so I had this huge Maglight I was using so I could see ahead of me. As I was nearing downtown, I started singing to myself a little--and when I looked across the road, for a split second I thought I saw my main character. O_o; I snapped out of it within less than a second, but still, for a moment there I was like "OH SHI-" and then I was like, "Oh...wait. Uh, I'm losing it." The person was dressed similarly to my main character, though, and they had a similar build, too. I'm not sure if it was actually a man or a woman, though. XD
And that, my friends, is how NaNoWriMo is affecting my mind. ^^;;
Anyway, just ripping and burning more Yoko Kanno. That's all for now!
I WANT MORE DENNOU COIL. ;_; I have a feeling my Haraken icon is going to be ridiculously overused because...Haraken! ♥

Date: 2007-11-10 07:36 pm (UTC)I've never been anywhere with lots of people writing together. It sounds fun, though maybe not so productive, lol.
18k, holy christ. I wish I was that far! I'm still on daily targets though :D I was 15,500 or so last night. Not going fabulous, but it's going... I think if I actually get into the plot part again it'll start to get some steam. I sort of forcibly shifted myself out of setup/character development and onto the first part of the plot (oh noes, mysterious illness appears!), and I realized I'd forgotten about, you know, antagonists :/ They're out there, I just neglected to write anything about them. Not an antagonist fan, I guess I'm avoiding it. But I don't want to write bad guys T_T.

Date: 2007-11-10 08:01 pm (UTC)Yeah, it was...marginally productive, considering the amount of time we spent there (I got ~1000 words done), but it's a great motivator. You start feeling like your novel is really cool as a result of talking about it with other people, and when you get home you're all excited and ready to write!
I don't like writing antagonists, either, hence why the majority of my stories don't have them. XD And it's fine to just keep on target! I'm just glad you've kept up with wordcount, as so many people are really off-track with their wordcounts. Mysterious illness sounds like it'll be interesting to write about!
Sort of unrelated, but you should see Mushishi. o_o From what I've heard of your novel, it reminds me very very slightly of Mushishi. Very slightly. But everyone should see Mushishi anyway because it's fantastic, so I'm just recommending it regardless.

Date: 2007-11-12 02:59 am (UTC)Damn I want that Shinx. But shipping from here is so utter crap that I can't justify buying the lot and trying to resell the others. Argh!!
Sorry, just had to vent.

Date: 2007-11-12 03:19 am (UTC)The Shinx set is so very awesome. D: I think you could sell the Drifloon set and the Piplup set (and maybe Heatran), but...yeah. Darn it, if only there were some I was after, I'd go in with you for it!
Shipping's $8 for me, which overall isn't bad. But I know you're in Canada... I'd offer to win it for you, but reshipping it to Canada from here would probably just be even more expensive.

Date: 2007-11-12 03:22 am (UTC)I might cave and get it anyway >.> I could perhaps use the rest in trades.
PS: word count is 19,066 :D

Date: 2007-11-12 03:41 am (UTC)You could ask on the community if anyone's interested in any of those before buying them, too.
Yayyy! Good going! :D You're right at my heels!

Date: 2007-11-12 03:46 am (UTC)LOL, can you hear my brain rationalizing? XD
Anyway, yeah, NaNo is going nicely... enjoying everything I've written so far. I think often of what I'll have to expand on, which considering the 50k target is kind of frightening!

Date: 2007-11-12 04:13 am (UTC)And, hey, for what you paid for it, if you sell the ones you don't want for a cheap price like $6-8 each (plus shipping, of course), you'll still make back a fairly good chunk of the price.
Glad your NaNo is going well, too! You're one of the few people I know who also feels NaNo is going well. XD It makes me happy that someone else is having a great time and not behind! :D I mean, a few of my friends are doing great and enjoying the process, but for every friend who's having an awesome time, there's at least two who never started or who are severely behind.

Date: 2007-11-10 09:19 pm (UTC)Ahhh, that's so good you've nearly got 20,000. T_T I don't know, I'm just not finding enough time to write. Plus, I write slow. I really want to win this year though, I'll dedicate my weeklong Thanksgiving break to it if I have the chance (leaving home to go to Thxgiving parties... gaah! And it seems extreme & rude to carry along a laptop to write on when going to those parties, so yeah).
^^ I want to read your story when its done. Ta!

Date: 2007-11-11 08:20 am (UTC)I hope you catch up soon! Just try to set aside a specific amount of time each day to write, and when you do write, just go for it and don't worry about the quality of the writing. It's the quantity that counts, remember?
Sure! I'll need some time alone with it so I can edit it to death, but after that you're welcome to read it if you'd like.
