I really should go to bed, but I feel bleh and a bit depressed and a little sick, so I think I need something to at least try to cheer me up a little. ._.;

Just...cleaning up headless baby bird I was raising at 5 AM (and not being able to get that image out of my head) + lack of sleep + good possibility of NOT getting the Pikachu DS that I've been wanting to buy for MONTHS and did buy but still might not get + hurting arm + small possibility another jay will die = ...*Cries*

BEGINNINGS
1. What was the series that got you into anime?
Pokémon, Pokémon, Pokémon. Obviously, I still love it dearly. 8D I went straight from Pokémon to...Princess Mononoke and Cowboy Bebop, with no Dragonball Z or Sailor Moon or any of that in between. When I was really little, I absolutely loved this one anime called Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland. I didn't know it was anime at the time, so I doubt it counts, but...still. Miyazaki actually worked on that project for a while, but left due to "creative differences" with the rest of the staff.

2. How old were you when you first got into anime?
Nine years old, in 1997. Definitely a good year. :D

3. How many years has it been since then?
One decade.

4. About how expensive was anime/manga then?
It was pretty expensive. I have a VIZ catalog from back then, and it was about $25 for Ranma 1/2 VHS tapes and such. It's so amazing to flip through this old catalog and see how the industry has grown since then.

5. Did someone introduce you to anime, or did you discover it on your own?
My brother technically helped get me into Pokémon by introducing it to me, but I went on my own from there. I had/have (we still talk ever-so-occasionally) an online buddy who recommended some good stuff to me, too, so that was a bit of a help. Otherwise, I mostly taught myself the ways of anime.

AUDITORY
6. Who is your favorite seiyuu?
Mamoru Miyano is my favorite male seiyuu. (And I shall take this time to be ridiculous and silly and say that I have adored his voice acting since before 90% of his fanbase knew who he is. SO PROUD. He has so many fangirls now. XD) Favorite female seiyuu is Maaya Sakamoto. I also have several other favorite seiyuu, though--Paku Romi, Tomokazu Sugita, Aya Hirano, Tomokazu Seki, Mamiko Noto, among others.

7. Who is your favorite voice actor/actress?
Not really into dubs... I love the English cast of Cowboy Bebop, though. They're fantastic. I sometimes feel like a strange person because I really don't care for dubs, but I've met many of the voice actors and actresses and I get along with them quite well. So, uh. I don't know.

8. Which series has the best dub?
Cowboy Bebop, represent. I had seen the Japanese version nine times by the time I saw the English version, and the English version STILL matched up.

9. How about the worst dub?
OH GOD THAT ONE ZOE SENT ME ON YOUTUBE. HAHAHA. I wish it wasn't gone so I could share it. It was hysterical.

10. What are some of your favorite anime opening songs?
Hemisphere (RahXephon), Tank! (Cowboy Bebop), Cloud Age Symphony (Last Exile), Tori no Uta (AIR), Free Bird (Haibane Renmei), Hit in the USA (Beck), Uninstall (Bokurano), and All the Way (Kino's Journey) come to mind. I'm not going to list themes from anime I haven't seen, because then I'd just be listing Yoko Kanno tracks again. XD

11. Ending songs?
Sokoni Soraga Arukara (Pokémon), Gravity (Wolf's Rain), The Real Folk Blues (Cowboy Bebop), Ride on Shooting Star (FLCL), all the Honey & Clover ending themes, Over the Sky (Last Exile), Shissou (Ouran High School Host Club), Shiki no Uta (Samurai Champloo), and others.

12. How often do you get introduced to new bands because of anime OPs/EDs?
Quite a bit. It's always nice to find a good band right under your nose.

VISUAL
13. Which series has the best animation?
Mmmm, Gankutsuou. Byousoku 5 Centimeters. And, uh, Final Fantasy: Advent Children. Last Exile's is darn nice, too.

14. The worst?
You know, I've seen some pretty damn bad animation over the years, but I don't know what series they were. So they will remain unnamed.

15. What was the first series that really impressed you with its animation?
Princess Mononoke and Cowboy Bebop, back in '98. Going from Pokémon to those two is quite a shocker.

16. What one character do you think has a great overall design?
I...don't know. @_@ I tend to pay most attention to kind of ordinary-looking characters because that's the way I am, so it's hard for me to say. I've always liked Cheza's character design, spandex and all, but I can't really make an overall call. Oh, but Miina from Densha Otoko has a great character design, too. I probably wouldn't even think of her normally, but the figure I have of her has made me extra fond of her for some reason. The Count from Gankutsuou has a killer design, too. Boring as it is, I have wayyy too much fondness for Ayato (from RahXephon)'s character design. O_o;

17. What's one cliched character design you hate?
The yaoi artist style. You know. The one. The one where the "seme" looks big and angsty and imposing, and the "uke" looks like...a girl. I'm also not fond of the really willowy, long- flowing-hair-with-pointy-chins types of bishounen. No thanks. Moe stuff would probably irritate me more if I wasn't into several series with moe-type art. XD

CONTENT
18. Which series had a plot twist which really took you by surprise or shocked you?
It's not anime, but 20th Century Boys was filled with amazing, shocking plot twists. I hope they make an anime out of it soon. Also, the final plot twist in Arjuna shocked me. But in a completely "WHAT. THE. FUCK." kind of way. Not a good way. XD

19. Which series makes you cry?
I have more "almost cried" series than "actually cried" series, but... I cried for like two hours after the end of Cowboy Bebop. Not as badly as Nicole, mind you, but pretty bad. I can't remember whether I actually cried in Wolf's Rain, strangely enough. I might've, but I might not've, too. I cried at the end of Last Exile for reasons completely unknown to me. SAIKANO. Granted, I was really upset at the time to begin with, but I definitely cried in Saikano. I didn't cry for Franz. I wanted to, but I didn't. Now and Then, Here and There had me on the verge.

20. Which series makes you laugh most?
Ouran High School Host Club cracked me up. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei was pretty funny, too, and Haruhi!

21. Which series totally confused you?
The first time or two through FLCL was incredibly bizarre, though it now seems like a pretty linear story to me. XD Higurashi was fairly confusing. Perfect Blue was very "???" at parts. The first runthrough of Haruhi was an incredibly fun kind of confusing, just because of the chronology. Eva and RahXephon were both somewhat confusing at parts.

22. Which series creeped you out?
Honestly? Nothing has really truly creeped me out. Perfect Blue spooked me a little, apparently, because when I was opening a can of soup immediately after watching it, the soup can burst and got all over the counter and me, and I thought it was blood for a split second. XD Higurashi and Monster had their moments, but I can't say any series has honestly creeped me out.

23. Which series has the best ending?
Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Gankutusou. I don't care what anyone else says about Wolf's Rain's ending--it was thematically perfect for the series, and I think they pulled it off splendidly. I also loved Paranoia Agent's ending, and Millennium Actress's ending. And RahXephon and Last Exile! And, while there were aspects I didn't like about the ending, the last scene of Honey & Clover was just so so so sweet. ;_;

24. The worst?
Arjuna. I laughed and said "WTF?" aloud to myself for about ten minutes afterwards. I mean, sure, the series had its other bizarre points (though I also believe it had some incredibly beautiful scenes), but the ending was just...too strange.

25. Which completed series deserves a continuation?
I could use more Gunslinger Girl and Loveless.

26. What types of characters do you usually like?
I tend to fall madly in love with the slightly insane characters like Morita from Honey & Clover, Tamaki from Ouran, and Ryuichi in Gravitation. Spastic FTW. I also tend to like the kind-of-ordinary-and-reserved characters, like Ayato from RahXephon, Claus from Last Exile, Albert from Gankutsuou, and such.

27. On average, do your favorite characters usually live or die?
The nature of the series I watch means lots of character death. I'd say most survive, though, 'cause I tend to love the main characters/good guys. XD

28. Who is the best hero?
HARUHI 'CAUSE SHE WILL PUNISH ME IF I SAY ANYONE ELSE. Seriously, though? Much love for Ayato. I once had a dream I was his roommate and was madly in love with him. O_o; And Satoshi from Pokémon because. Um. There's not really a canon reason. Just 'cause. XD

29. Who is the worst Mary Sue?
Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi? Not that I've seen more than two episodes of Fushigi Yuugi, but that's my impression. XD

30. What is your favorite anime movie?
Millennium Actress, probably, though Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are very special to me, too. And...man, I have too many favorites. So much love for anime movies.

31. What are your favorites genres of anime?
I'm all over the place. My favorites overall, I guess, though, are seinen. (Seinen = aimed at older guys.) Basically, though, anything philosophical and emotional is my cup of tea. Dark/violent/upsetting is a nice plus. I like my anime to put me through all kinds of emotions and really force me to think about what it's trying to say about the world/humanity/life.

32. Is there a series you're embarrassed to like for any reason?
...Gravitation. Gah, it's so bad, and I know it, but...but! It's such fun crack and so entertaining and the characters are spazzy. I don't like admitting that I like it to fellow serious anime fans, though. XD

33. Which series is so overrated it makes you want to puke?
Death Note. Yes, it's a great series, it's very intriguing and interesting, but I think it's way overestimated. It pales in comparison to things like 20th Century Boys and Monster.

PERVERSIONS & SUCH
34. What was the first hentai picture/video you saw?
I can't remember the first hentai picture I saw (I'm pretty sure I just shrugged and pressed the back button), but I do remember the discovery of "lemons" in Pokémon fanfics. I was boggled and deeply uninterested. I was, what, ten? To be fair, I'm still not into the perversions of fandom. XD

35. Is there any subcategory of hentai/yaoi/yuri that freaks you out?
Shota/Loli, I guess. I don't know--I'm not into hentai/yaoi/yuri really. XD

36. What's the weirdest, most bizarre hentai/yaoi/yuri you've ever seen?
I've only seen one actual yaoi, and it was so boring I left before the corn rape. There was old man rape, though. XD

37. Be honest... about how much anime porn do you have saved on your computer, you dirty perv?
Do a full sweep of my hard drive. I have none. I have some PG-13 or possibly R-rated SasuNaru stuff, and I have one R-rated Kakashi/Yondaime fanfic I have saved because it's BRILLIANT and emotional and amazing, but that's it. I'm not a very sexual person.

38. Who's the best-looking male character?
I go through random obsessions with male characters, so if you ask me this at any one time, you'll get a different answer. But, off the top of my head: Kiba from Wolf's Rain, Ayato from RahXephon, Morita from Honey & Clover, Tamaki from Ouran, Li/Hei from Darker than Black (*drool*), Claus from Last Exile, Albert from Gankutsuou... I can't tell if this an objective analysis, though, 'cause I like all of them as characters, too.

39. Who's the best-looking female character?
Oh, man, I've got to think outside the box on this one. Er, Haruhi (from SHnY), Reika from RahXephon, Blue from Wolf's Rain...? ROFL, I don't know. It's not like I think about this a lot.

40. What characteristic can a character have that will automatically make you interested in them?
I don't think there is such a characteristic. O_o;

41. Who was your first anime crush, if you ever had one?
Satoshi from Pokémon. Aw, he's adorkable in Japanese!

42. Who was your most SEVERE anime crush?
I don't know. It's hard to put it in perspective.

MISC
43. Did you ever send in fan art to an anime magazine?
No, though, I was urged to by lots of people.

44. Was it horribly drawn?
N/A.

45. Was it published?
N/A.

46. Which fandoms do you associate yourself with?
Pokémon definitely, Naruto (though it's fading a bit here...), Wolf's Rain, Cowboy Bebop, Gankutsuou, Mushishi... Erk, I have too many fandoms. I don't know. I'm not going to list them all again. Go look at my interests page!

47. Was your first anime convention your favorite?
No, it was lots of fun, though. Conventions are still euphoric amounts of fun, even twenty-six or twenty-seven cons later.

48. Have you ever been teased/made fun of because you like anime?
Yeah, I'm sure I have. But I kind of invite it because I'm so publicly geeky (I ONCE GAVE A SPEECH IN ENGLISH CLASS IN A KUMAGOROU (PINK BUNNY) SUIT), and I can't even remember a specific time because I honestly don't care what people think about my anime love. If they do make fun of me, it has no effect on me whatsoever.

49. Have you ever seriously learned something from anime
Oh, a great many things! I could never list them all.

50. What pisses you off about anime fans in general, if anything?
It's an elitist attitude, and we were all new fans once, but new fans who can't type, yell about nothing, show no grasp on the subject, and obsess on Inuyasha and whatever's on Adult Swim kind of miff me. Basically, the people I used to run at my high school's Anime Club. Trust me, if you had to rule over these buffoons, you'd agree.

It's two in the morning. I got up at 4:30 AM. I really, really, really need to sleep.

Ouran is my pick me up series. I love it so much. Maybe I should do this survey sometime. XD
