Started out like a relatively normal school day. Because of the funky schedule, I had PE first period. This wasn't much of a problem, as I was very awake this morning for no apparent reason. However, even at 7:30 AM, it was already starting to burn. WTF, summer? Why are you here already? What ever happened to spring? Oh well. It made for some very hot and unpleasant tennis games, especially seeing as my coordination was absolutely terrible today and I couldn't even hit the darn ball. I hit it about twice, and both of those times it went off in wonky directions and eventually landed itself in other courts. My partner Angela was doing fairly well, though.

When we finished tennis, Mr. Humphers had us run a lap around the track and then play basketball. Y'know, "play" it. I did the usual stand-around-the court. I also told Mr. Humphers about the scrub jay, and he was supportive in saying that yes, I can bring it to class, and yes, I can feed it and such.

Art was...utterly workless for me. I was lazy, so I just watched Zoe paint for the whole hour and a half. Zoe and I got in a nice big discussion about birds, though, so that was fun. Zoe had all these bird magazines she was painting from and so we talked about the pictures, species of birds, our histories as birdwatchers, etc. We also listened to the entire Arjuna OST 2 and part of Sousei no Aquarion OST 2 during the period. ^^

Lunch was about as exciting as the period preceeding it. I ate and...um...sat there and such.

English was also not too exciting, but bearable because I was happy I could get out of it early. We just went over prompts for the AP test essays and...meh. I escaped twenty minutes early with my "Kristin has an appointment" note from Dad, and my vocal explanation that I didn't actually have an appointment but needed to go get the bird I'm rehabbing in Yuba City. Mrs. Mclean had no issues with it. I missed the Friday tea and food as a result, though.

Luckily, Mom came right on time. After that there was a series of mishaps, however. >.> We drove to Dad's to get all my bird stuff I had spent hours preparing the day before, only to discover Dad didn't leave the key out. I freaked and thought of the nearest access to a key, which was determined to be the office of the landlord. Nope, they weren't home. Ryan? We drove all the way to his school, got him out of class, and it turned out he forgot his key, too. So, in the end, Dad had to drive all the way from Auburn to give us the key. It was quite late by that time, but seeing as I had already called Becky and Jacqui about the time mix-ups, it was okay.

Once I gathered all my bird stuff, we went by Jacqui's so Jacqui could get together some stuff for Becky and give me a crash course on what I needed, what to do, etc. While Jacqui and I rushed around her house gathering things and talking about 100 mph, Mom picked Ryan up from school because he had a headache and wanted to come get the bird with us.

So, then we were off. We listened to the Densha Otoko OST on the way down and I spent most of my time reviewing my bird knowledge and looking at all the pretty green hills and fields. We found Becky's house with not much trouble at all, and went in there. I was amazed that Becky is doing such a big project as wildlife rehabilitation is---she is in a wheelchair (which, by itself, is not a big deal) but she is also losing control of her hands and requires a bunch of assistants to even live on her own. It's amazing she can still feed these little guys--it's quite an intricate task. Anyway, she had a really beautiful house with tons of plants and artwork and healthy, happy animals, so it was a great place. She had three BIG dogs and a bunch of doves in an aviary outside, and some gorgeous cats. :D

So, she took out my jay pretty much immediately and HE IS SO CUTE. ♥ It's a good thing I'm good at disconnecting myself from things emotionally (with a few exceptions, as has been noted), because I know I'd get so attached to him if I couldn't. She showed me how to feed him and gave me some tips, and then we all went outside to look at the beautiful doves, whose eggs were hatching as we watched. :D Then we went back inside, I fed him a few times to be sure I had this whole feeding thing down, and then we took off.

Oh, and by the way, as we were looking at the doves, Dad called. Apparently, I won the Young Writers Contest! Like...first place! *Dances around excitedly* I get $150 as a prize and I get to read it at the awards ceremony and I'm rather happy. I knew I'd win if I pushed the whole social issues angle... Older writers love that type of stuff. :D That was a very nice addition to an already exciting day.

The ride back was fairly uneventful... I fed him several times when he peeped for food, and Mom dropped me [and the bird, as he is now my 100% constant companion until he self-feeds] off at Jacqui's for a while so she could brief me more about what to do with him. We did that for a while, Janey dropped by to say hello and watch us feed and inspect him, and I helped Jacqui do some poster-related stuff until Mom picked me up.

Most of the rest of the day has consisted of feeding him repeatedly. I'm beginning to wonder how to balance life with the fact that I have to feed a baby bird every half-hour, but I'll manage. I have to work on my AMV tomorrow, in addition to feeding this guy. That should go just fine, though. I can just keep his basket near the computer.

Well, now that he's asleep (?), I can go take a shower and wash out the syringe...

Just one for now. We're hoping to get another little jay in because birds by themselves are more likely to become imprinted to humans, but for now there's just this little guy. He's a lot of fun--a lot of work, too, but he's so cute it's hard to mind really.

You've read it already. It was the first story I wrote for Creative Writing, and then I just dredged the ancient thing up and submitted it.

Haha! That's awesome she's a hardcore birder--I'm a hardcore bird rehabber. XD;; If she ever wants to talk about birds, I'm already starting to be a bit of an expert. The bird I have right now was caught by a cat when he was about one week old. Luckily, the cat didn't do any damage to him (though he went on cat scratch fever antibiotics just in case, as all cat-caught birds are).

Yeah--the money's going to my Fanime and Anime Expo funds. I have...$800 now. :O I have NO idea where it all came from.
