Apr. 28th, 2012 10:45 pmThe gosling I took in is so adorable! He's definitely bonded to me. I think, based off what I know about canada geese, I may not be able to make him wild, so I'm planning on him likely being domestic in the end. He gets lonely often, so, while I hate buying animals and especially poultry (hatcheries upset me), I might get a duckling at the feed store to keep him company.
I have him in the bird room in a large storage tub for now, and strangely enough, my male lovebird Mango has taken a keen interest in him. He even goes in the storage tub with him! Many of the times that I go in the room, Mango is perched on the top of the storage tub, staring at the gosling. They make noises back and forth to each other. So weird, haha, but cute at the same time.
I'll take pictures of the gosling tomorrow!
Meanwhile, the turkey I took in is quite the character. I think he might be a royal palm/narraganset cross. He's in with the ducks, Chelsea the peahen, and roosters for now and seems content. (There is a deadly disease that turkeys can get from chickens so I have to be careful, but I think it should be okay.) I'll probably let him free on the property and lock him up only at night once we finish the fence, though. I think I want to keep him, orz, I really like him! He's super friendly and funny. He's hormonal so every time I'm around he stays puffed up, trying to impress me.
He needs a name, so if you can think of suggestions that would be great! I'd like something dignified, hahaha.

I actually prefer the look of turkeys when they're not all puffed out, but he wouldn't stop showing off for me, LOL. I'd eventually like to get him a girl or two, but of course only rescued ones.
This guy weighs around 20 lbs or so and he's tall, too. I'm not used to such gigantic birds, even though I see the turkeys at work sometimes! He makes my gigantic roosters and Chelsea the peahen look tiny...
I've got to take a picture of him with a serama!
