My friend Ray gave me a tiny serama hen about a week ago who isn't doing so well. Her skin is pale, her feather condition is poor, she's lethargic and shivery, and a bit thin. He gave her to me in hopes that I could save her. I was thinking it might just be some internal problem I couldn't do anything about, and thought I would just basically provide end-of-life care, but good thing I decided to check her more thoroughly! She is covered in mites. This could be causing all of her symptoms. I can't believe I didn't check for them right away! Just because I don't usually have mite or lice problems in my flock. Now Molly and Swordfish have them, too. Out of sheer paranoia, I'm going to have to check my outdoor birds, too, though they regularly take dust bathes so hopefully they're fine.

So, it's time to clean out the three serama indoor cage and go get some Sevin dust to start treating ASAP! If this goes on much longer, I don't think she's going to make it.

I'm just relieved it's something simple and treatable. Maybe she'll be back to her old self once she's been all treated!
