pacificpikachu: (Himalayan Monal)
[personal profile] pacificpikachu
Okay, feeling way better today. I've been energetic for most of today and had a good attitude. I'm not sure what was up with last night's sudden sadness, but oh well. I'm really enjoying my job so far. The people there are great and fun to spend time with, there are many dogs in the office at all times (and I may even be able to bring Honey with me to work), and of course I love visiting the various animals at the sanctuary and petting them. Yesterday I saw the goats for the first time, and today I saw the sheep for the first time (for the first time because both have large areas they can roam and so I didn't see them the other times I've been around). And now, if he's around, I always go to say hi to Frank the pot-belly pig because he's so friendly. Most of the other pot-bellies are friendly, too, but Frank comes RUNNING. Sadie, one of the resident cows, gets to wear a horse blanket in the cold because she's arthritic and a little bit thin. She looks so cute in it!

I called several egg farms today. Mostly got clueless secretaries and message machines, but it's progress anyway. I got hung up on once, fff. Thank you, kind secretary, for shooting down my polite request for the number of birds at the farm, and frequency and size of depopulating, before I even properly got to ask. Also, the mother of a friend I made through BYC was going to bring her older laying hens to auction (not a good place to go), but she called me instead. The hens are going to end up at AnimalPlace and be adopted out instead. I also researched a lot about livestock auctions in northern California, which I may attend at some point (will be depressing but does offer a chance to save some critters possibly), and got a rather strange call about hens behaving like roosters. This does happen sometimes with hens if they have ovarian cysts, but still...an odd call. XD

I uploaded four new icons! ♥ One of a Himalayan monal (the one I'm using), one of a secretary bird, one of a chick, and one of a baby fennec fox. :D

Once NaNo is finished, which for me will be on Sunday during the Night of Writing Dangerously, I have lots of art I want to do! Making a text file list.

Also, that wishlist meme that is going around. I will be trying to get everyone at least one thing on their list if I possibly can. I sometimes fail at actually having time to do things and I can be somewhat forgetful, but I will try my hardest to fulfill as many wishes as I feasibly can!

Step One

☆ Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered ... whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

☆ If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

☆ Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

☆ Surf around your friends list (or friends' friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

☆ If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just... wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

My Wishlist:

1. Small, random items of my favorite animals. Plush, figures, thrift store finds, whatever, I'm not picky at all! My favorite animals include (but are not limited to): Chickens, corgis, border collies, crows/magpies/ravens/jays, fennec foxes, pheasants of any species, quail, SECRETARY BIRD (if you find anything secretary bird, you deserve an award, LOL), and I love birds in general.

In particular, I would love this Fennec Fox plush: http://cgi.ebay.com/Fennec-Fox-12-Plush-Stuffed-Animal-Toy-/150521517515?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230bc815cb

2. Custom items (plush, sculptures, magnets, keychains, etc.) or art of any of the following Pokémon! Starred ones would be particularly appreciated--but of course I will love anything! Kenhorou* (either gender), Chiramii*, Umbreon*, surfing Pikachu*, Koaruhii, Swanna, Wargle, Washibon, Mijumaru, Eevee, Chikorita, Mew, Buizel, Togetic/Togekiss, Lapras, Azumarill, any canine Pokémon, Politoed, Seel/Dewgong, Mebukijika, Shimama, Zebraika, Emonga, the two Archaeopteryx... Is that enough options?

3. Fabric or paint or art supplies of any sort that you're not going to use. If you have some lying around that are just left over from a previous project or something you got and know you won't use them, I might be able to use it! Throw it in a box and ship it to me. :D

4. Mostly applies to people who look on Ebay and Yahoo!Japan. Help spotting my grails! My grails are:

- Giant Lapras plush
- 2001 Pokémon Mini Umbreon Strap
- Umbreon In-Case Figure and Mini-Stamper

(Psst, also any Pokémon cels, Ein (corgi from Cowboy Bebop) cels, and any other super-rare/unusual Umbreon items that pop up!)

5. Vote for my wildlife rehab group every day during November! Really, it means a lot. We're going up in the ranks! I don't know if we can pull it off before the end of November but we're going to try! We need to be in the top ten to win. http://www.refresheverything.com/wildliferehab

On a similar note, if anyone has a few spare dollars to throw at either Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release (www.cawildlife911.org) or AnimalPlace (www.animalplace.org), I would be very honored if you would make a donation to either! Even small amounts are wonderful if you have $3 in your Paypal or something. I am personally involved with both groups, and with either group, the money goes directly to support injured/orphaned/neglected/abused animals who can use the help.

6. Go watch Earthlings. In its entirety if you can handle it, if not, at least the first fifteen minutes and last fifteen minutes. Then pass it on to anyone you think will watch it. --> http://www.earthlings.com/

(I know, this is a weird "gift", but I really want this documentary to spread as far and wide as I can help it go. It really provides an excellent overview of animal rights, why animal rights are important, and is very profound and beautiful in the parts that are not painfully horrifying.)

7. Extensions to my paid LJ account.

8. If you're local, I am in need of a doghouse or shelter of some sort for my guinea fowl and big ducks. If you find one, build one, see one for cheap, I would really appreciate it! The bigger the better, my four ducks are fairly gigantic.

I can't think of anything else I want, so ten items is not necessary. Just have a good holiday, treat people and animals with kindness, and let's all try and make each others' wishes come true!
