Sep. 29th, 2010 10:44 pmMom hit a grey fox on the highway. :( :( :( I said "Fox!" when it ran out, but apparently she didn't see it... And it was going to be fine if it kept going, but it backtracked and ran right under her tire. I thought she hadn't hit it, but she felt it thump against her tire. I feel really sad and guilty, even though obviously it was just an accident, we can't help what happened, and I wasn't even driving. Poor fox, just trying to cross the street. It was such a cute and pretty little fox, it didn't deserve that...

On a better note, we got some fencing for the front yard. Finally, I've been waiting to get some fencing forever because our dogs sometimes run out in the street if they're excited about a person being over there (there's a bike path and the dogs want to say hi to people and dogs over there) and it's really scary. No close calls, but I can't help but worry! D: Also, I was offered a nice dog kennel for FREE from someone in Sacramento, so we're probably going to go pick it up on Sunday. Getting this dog kennel, plus the kennel I already got, means I'll have PLENTY of room for my birds! 60 sq each for the two smaller kennels, plus a 200 sq ft larger kennel, plus my chicken coop (which is 375 sq ft not including the henhouse, which adds another 100 sq ft or so). :D I'll be set! (Other than building the quail cage, I still need to get the last of the materials for that and start building.)
Kind of an up and down type of day. Chicks hatching, putting a turkey down, getting offered a free kennel, getting fence stuff, going out to dinner, hitting a fox. I dunno. I'm so sensitive about animal stuff, but I can't help it. My core belief is that animals' lives matter as much as peoples' lives and to trivialize another life would go totally against who I am. I'm simply not capable of that kind of apathy.
(Don't worry, I'm not that horribly depressed, just...feel bad for the fox. :( The turkey was a compassionate decision, but the fox...)
