Three chicks out of the incubator so far! No other pips yet so I'm a little concerned (because today is day 21! Hatch day, guys, come on out!) about the rest of the chicks, but we'll see. I'll give them at least another two or so days to start hatchin' and if not I'll open up the eggs and see what went wrong/if there's anybody alive in there. Seramas are a bit delicate and difficult to hatch, especially when shipped, so if that's all I get, so be it, but it would be nice to get more if the universe is so inclined. I had to help one of the chicks out of its egg because it made a big hole in its egg and then didn't zip quickly enough, so the membrane dried up by the hole and made it stuck. I made the bathroom all humid so there would be no humidity loss when I opened the incubator (humidity loss during hatching time, even for a minute or two, can cause major problems) and got out the two hatched chicks and the one I needed to help. Thankfully the one that needed help only needed a little help, a tiny bit of the membrane just got stuck to its little wing. A few seconds fixed that. :) It's doing perfectly fine!

Charming and her four chicks are doing great, too! Pictures of all seven chicks probably tomorrow, and maybe more if I'm lucky and get more chicks tonight.

I got in a juvenile wild turkey. Unfortunately it had a bad, bad compound fracture in the wing and had to be put down. The bone sticking out was literally about 1.5" out and 1" wide, eesh, and then there was a smaller bone piece sticking out a few inches away. D: Also, the entire area around the compound fracture was huge, yellow, and awful-looking--totally infected and seemed like a mess of bones in there. The lump of bone and tissue was about 2-3" wide and maybe 2" tall. I think the injury had been around for at least a few days. Also, one of the turkey's legs was unable to move, so that was the final nail in the coffin. (Would've put it down without that, too, though.) I think it may have been hit by a car. I've euthanized quite a few wild animals, easily in the dozens, but it's still a bit sad. :( I took the turkey's body to the intake center because the vet is not allowed to deal with the wildlife corpses and stuck it in the freezer there.

Ummm, that's all for now I suppose! Still watching the incubator for more pips and whatnot. I'm sooo happy about my serama chicks I have so far, they're SUPER cute!
