100+ sheets of production artwork from Wolf's Rain, actually used by the animators. *A* Of course they're photocopies given to the animators to use and not original drawings, but still! Something I would never have a chance at again from a series that is very, very special to me. I do plan on buying an original drawing from Wolf's Rain, too, but I'm trying to decide which one and it won't be before Fanime probably. Two of my other planned purchases at some point in the future are a Pokémon cel and a Cowboy Bebop cel, but those are when the right one comes up and when I have the money to do so. I would love an original Dennou Coil drawing, too, but I dunno if one of those will show up--and if so, if I'll be able to afford it. I would love a piece of Gurren Lagann, like a sketch, but I already have original sketches from many of the animators/most of the staff in general so that's a bit lower priority.
Amusingly enough, the seller is in Roseville, too. I could go pick them up in person! I won't, but still.
I have the kittens now! They're sooo cute! Four weeks old. :) Two yellow tabbies, two gray tabbies, all four are male. If anyone local wants to come see them and bottle feed them, you're welcome to visit~
I finished ToraDora this morning! Overall, I think this was one of the best romance-themed series I've seen. It didn't have as deep of an impact on me as Honey & Clover, but considering it's aimed at perhaps a slightly younger audience than Honey & Clover, it was truly an impressive series. There were a number of scenes that were incredibly emotional and surprised me with their poignancy. I won't forget those scenes any time soon, nor how I connected to them.
I thought the ending was rushed and therefore it wasn't as amazing as it could have been (I think overall the middle and later parts of the series were the best), but that doesn't change my enjoyment of the series as a whole. That kiss scene in the last episode was...wow, really special. I loved the depth of the characters in this series, and how often their dynamics changed and the character development was rather impressive--especially considering this is a slice-of-life series. I thought the friendships of these characters were quite beautiful and sometimes very painful, and also the sense of unity in the class towards the end of high school. There were the occasional things I was a little ? or :/ about, but those are rather minor in contrast with this series' overpowering strengths--that of capturing sometimes very complex and conflicting emotions, and setting up some fantastic characters to play off of each other until the inevitable ending. I felt like the connection between Ryuuji and Taiga was well built-up and portrayed. It didn't have the feel of petty high school romance at all (as opposed to their respective crushes), but a real and powerful connection between two people who fit together. Some of the things they did for each other were just so moving.
I don't know if anyone other than
garefowl on my f-list has seen all of this series, but was I the only one slightly baffled by Kushieda? I almost felt like she might have an underlying gender issue or...something! I mean, I liked her character because she was a bit enigmatic and hard to read and I think that was part of the point, but she just baffled me a little. She reminded me of someone I would meet in real life. You can know some things, but not everything, if that makes sense. Obviously, that's how real people are--we have different sides, sometimes confusing motives and ideas, and aren't always straightforward.
Anyway, if you like romance series or even if you don't generally (I like romance, but tend to prefer it as a side dish rather than the main platter), I think this series is well worth checking out. It's quite moving and well-executed, and if you aren't moved by some of these scenes...well, you might want to get your emotion goggles adjusted.
I'm kind of on a cleaning spree for today because when my surroundings are at least somewhat clean I'm more productive and happy overall, so if I find my camera cord I'll post pictures. I hope it turns up!
