Mar. 2nd, 2010 01:34 amYay, finally got all of my
pkmncollectors packages except two out today, and the two remaining will be going out Wednesday. It feels good to have packages out! Also means I can do some more sales soon. :)
I'm on the verge of finally reaching 10K on DeviantArt! Thinking of doing a picture to celebrate, but it's too late for me to start one right now unfortunately, as much as I would like to. Also need to start on
rikufied's Ampharos sculpture soon. :D
Not much is going on in my life otherwise, so have the interests meme that's been going around the f-list.
Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have less than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much.
1. Anime conventions -- I've been going to anime conventions since 2003, and I absolutely love them. One would think I would get tired of them, over fifty conventions later, but that's not the case at all. I can't afford to go to all the small cons any more, but on an absolute minimum I always go to at least three--Fanime, Anime Expo, and Yaoi-Con. Of course, if I can manage more, I most certainly go to more. I love cosplaying and seeing other costumes, going to convention events and panels, making friends with awesome people, meeting anime staff and mangaka, and just...pretty much everything about conventions. They're wonderful. I get SUPER excited about them and I've never had a convention that I didn't enjoy.
2. Books -- Oh, come on! Do I really have to explain why I like books? I've been an avid reader since I was little, and I enjoy reading all kinds of books of different genres, subject matter, style, intended audience, etc. I especially like going to the thrift stores and sorting through all the books and buying a bunch of them. Therefore, I have stacks of books pretty much everywhere. They run the gamut from literature to non-fiction about serial killers or animals or psychology or paranormal things or whatever else to fantasy to sci-fi to children's books to books that you can't even classify. I mean, books. How could a person not love books?Unless they can't read them, in which case, um. Probably not going to love books.
3. Darker than Black -- BONES series that I really enjoyed. The storyline wasn't always the most tightly told, and it ultimately didn't make all that much sense, but hey. It has Yoko Kanno music, Hei, great characters, some very lovely moments/scenes, interesting concepts, and overall I enjoyed it a lot. I would like to give it a rewatch sometime soon and also watch the second season, which I still haven't gotten to seeing.
4. Fanime -- This goes hand-in-hand with anime conventions, but oh well. Fanime is my favorite convention overall, hands-down, to the point that I spend a good half of every year getting excited about it and then the other half of the year reminiscing about it. I have so many amazing memories from that convention, and I think it works out just right in a number of ways. It's not too big but not too small, has a very fun and enthusiastic fanbase that goes to it year after year, fantastic atmosphere, perfect location, and just the right amount of amazing events to go to. Every year, I'm struck with melancholy when I have to leave because it feels like home to me. If a person is going to go to one convention, I always recommend Fanime. It's just the best.
5. Gurren Lagann -- One of my favorite anime series of all time, easily. I watched it out of what I felt was grudging obligation (because everyone was talking about it), and the first time through I had no idea what to think. Then again, I was in bed with a terrible flu at the time and wasn't in the best frame of mind for watching anime. The next few days after I saw it, I couldn't stop talking abut it, though, and only about two days after I originally saw it, I watched it again with friends. And, in my sane and non-sick frame of mind, I realized I was in love with it, and that it would likely change my life. And boy, has it ever. ♥ I've since seen it something like a dozen times, each time as inspiring and heartrending as the last, and I'm extremely proud to say I've met nearly the whole production staff, including the director, character designer, pretty much all of the animators, Shokotan, and...yeah. I've even been to Studio GAINAX! (I have photos to prove this if anyone doesn't believe me. XD) This series has moved and inspired me like almost nothing else, and it's very special to me. After seeing Lagann-hen, I actually broke down sobbing in the car on the way home because I was so moved. This is a rare feat with me.
6. J-pop -- Um, this goes along pretty well with being an anime fan. I do enjoy J-pop, though, from serious and beautiful and artistic to silly and bubbly and upbeat. I'm...not sure what else to say about it?
7. Loveless -- Oh, this manga. I really need to catch up on it. I always feel slightly guilty for admitting I'm a fan, but I find it quite intriguing! I'm not a big fan of the main pairing, but Ritsuka is so adorable and I like a lot of the characters, and the series itself is kind of nonsensical (well, maybe not nonsensical, but...jumbled?) in a totally interesting way. I especially find the psychology and philosophy aspects of the series fascinating. Also, I love Kouga Yun's art. ♥ As it is, I'm rather behind on it, but I'll catch up in due time.
8. Monster -- NAOKI URASAWAAAAA. ♥ Best mangaka ever. Monster is one of the best suspense manga ever, in my opinion, and just a damn good story period. So involving and haunting and morally complex, not to mention disturbing and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I seem to remember reading the entire series in essentially two sittings, which isn't uncommon with me and Urasawa's work. Absolutely incredible, and I recommend it to anyone who may read this entry who hasn't read it.
9. Ouran High School Host Club -- I watched it because it has Maaya Sakamoto and Mamoru Miyano playing the leads, but I ended up quite charmed by it. Such a hilarious and fun series to watch! It gets a bit sappy at times and I just roll my eyes, but overall I had so much fun with it that I can't help but love it. I especially love Tamaki. ♥ Planning to marathon this series again soon with my friends, and I'm looking forward to it!
10. Poultry -- Yes, I'm utterly addicted to poultry. This may seem strange, but trust me--they're very addictive! BackYardChickens is filled to the brim with other people who got a few chickens and now can't stop hatching babies and adding to their flock and expanding their coops and whatnot. Aside from the ever-present dogs and cats, I've found poultry are my favorite animals to keep. They're hardy and have long lifespans (usually 7-20 years depending on the variety), relatively simple to keep and care for, tame easily, have fantastic and hilarious individual personalities, and come in enough varieties that no matter what you want, you'll find something that matches the description. So many of them are incredibly beautiful, and they really do make fantastic pets. (This is from someone who has kept dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, different varieties of tropical birds, doves, reptiles, amphibians, horses, hermit crabs, fish, and so on.)
11. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei -- 絶望した! Epic hilarity and insanity. Enough said.
12. Suzumiya Haruhi -- I'm not sure why I listed her as her own separate interest, but I do think she's a great character. A lot of people find her obnoxious and, while I don't blame them, I think that's more or less the point in a way. I love watching her character gradually soften and become more compassionate while still keeping her oddball personality that makes her Haruhi. I can sympathize with her in some ways, although I'm nowhere near as aggressive or outgoing as she is. I just find her a very intriguing character with a number of different layers and sides to her, and I'm very excited to see the new Disappearance movie when I can. :D
13. Toshihiro Kawamoto -- Character designer for Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain, among other things. I just dig his style and admire his artwork a bunch. He's awesome. I hope to meet him someday!
14. Witch Hunter Robin -- I was really into this series years ago when it came out, but seeing as it's been over for quite a while the fandom died out. Anyway, I enjoyed this series a lot and still think it's a great series though I haven't seen it in quite a while. Very suspenseful, surprisingly complex, and I love the characters--especially Robin and Amon. The well scene! *___* My friends and I have so many strange in-jokes about this series, it's ridiculous. XD Need to give this a re-watch sometime! I actually love how this series begins as a monster-of-the-day type of series and then gradually becomes more morally complex and intense.
Guess that's all. I blathered on too long anyway, and used far too many adjectives in a repetitive manner. I'm not so great at being verbose or well-spoken in my blog, especially when talking about things I love. :P Unfortunately, the interest meme didn't capture any of my more obscure or weird interests, which is unfortunate. If you don't know what something in my interests is, feel free to ask any time and I'll explain. :D As is most likely obvious, I do rather enjoy talking about my interests.
