Bawww, having kind of a rough day. ;;

Hawkeye, one of my guinea pigs, started bleeding vaginally a little about a week ago after having the male in the cage with her. I didn't think much of it at first, thinking maybe he was just a little rough, or it was hormonal, as she was acting entirely normal despite the bleeding. However, in the last two days or so, she started losing weight and looking rather dull and sleepy, which was extremely worrisome to me. So today, I took her to the vet. She was prescribed some antibiotics, and hopefully that will do the trick because the next step would be exploratory surgery and potentially a spay. Obviously, this could end up being quite expensive if that's the case. I think the cause of the dull look and sleepiness, though, was also dehydration. When we take an injured or sick animal in with my wildlife rehab, the first thing we do is hydrate them, so I decided to see if she wanted some water before I took her to the vet. She drank around thirty or forty CCs when I gave her water out of a 1 CC syringe! Apparently, she hasn't been drinking or eating lately because she's been so under the weather. Poor girl--I'm glad I got her on medication before she got any worse.

Anyway, I'm concerned but hopeful. I have a feeling this is a vaginal or uterine infection, and if that's the case the medication should clear it right up. Think good thoughts for her! She's such a sweetheart, I would hate to lose her. ;; I've had her since the day she was born.

On top of this, I have cramps and feel generally tired/upset/emotional today thanks to the loveliness of female hormones, so things could be better. I'm sure it'll probably clear up by tomorrow (it better--going to the Celtic Festival with Makayla and Daniell tomorrow!), but it's still one of those days where I just feel like crying. Other than Hawkeye's problem and some [livejournal.com profile] pkmncollectors-related stress, it's not like anything is that terrible or difficult, though. Ah, gotta love hormones. ><

On another note, yesterday was FANTASTIC! I drove down to San Francisco to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] ensuing and Aubrey, and this was so much fun! I really enjoyed myself and wish I could hang out with both of them more often. :D We talked a whole bunch on various topics, including our respective experiences with running anime clubs (LOL), wandered around looking at various shops in Japantown, ate lots of good food, and just plain had a wonderful time. I headed back home at about 10 PM, got home at 1 AM, and just crashed. Driving can be surprisingly tiring at times.

I think I'll take off for the dog park in less than an hour. Nothing to cheer a person up like watching dogs be totally silly and play together!
