I would post this on BackYardChickens, but they're a bunch of chicken addiction enablers and would not help the cause in the slightest!

Someone keep me away from the hatchery websites! I just added some ideas of what I would want for chicks in my shopping cart on one hatchery site, and the total without shipping was $73. This was a conservative estimate. And, um, that's for a lot of chicks. B-but I want the pretty babies!

Old English game bantams, I love you so! You are the cutest little birds with hilarious friendly personalities. Why is it you must come in every beautiful and amazing color ever, including many colors I did not know about, and make me want to have the most massive OEGB and serama collection ever? ;___;

Look at all the pretty varieties: https://secuservices.com/ideal/newideal/Products.aspx?Category=Bantams%20-%20Old%20English ;________;

FFF THE BANTAMS ARE CORRUPTING ME WITH THEIR CUTENESS. THERE IS NO HOPE!

Thankfully chicks are not, in fact, available at the moment so it gives me at least a month to mull over my insanity and pare my ideas for how many chicks I'm getting in the spring down to a reasonable number. I must admit I am thinking of adding on to the coop, though.

And no, for the record, I am not actually going to end up with more animals than I can handle, so no need to be concerned. I'm just having a crisis of chick mania. It happens to the best of us chicken-crazy freaks. :'D

At least I actually HAVE two cutie-pie fluffball chicks to snuggle with to help me with my...issues.

;___;

One of my eggs had pipped this morning (meaning it broke a little hole in the shell, beginning to hatch). When I got home, the power had been out for a quite a while, and the chick died in the shell because the incubator got way too cold on account of the power outage. ;____;

I'm trying not to be too sad about it, but it does make me sad. I keep thinking "What if I had...?" even though I know that's useless. Anyway, RIP little almost-born chick. How disappointing.

Disabling comments because I'll be just fine. Just taking a moment to feel sad and then moving on. It can't be helped.

On a happier note, Splash and her two chicks! +2 dog pictures. )

Also, I got into the two art classes I wanted to take! The teacher who teaches both classes is really nice and interesting, I have a feeling I'm going to learn a lot from him.

Now if only I can get into Japanese tomorrow, I'll have a great schedule!
