Animals, blah blah blah.
Sep. 12th, 2009 12:11 amI went to the Wildlife Intake Center to sort yard sale stuff today in preparation for tomorrow, and thus I got first pick of everything AND all of it was discounted off of already low prices. :D Got so much random stuff that I don't really need but couldn't help getting. Best find? A lying-down white tiger plush that is something like four and a half feet long or so, and super gorgeous. *A* I was debating about getting it at first, but now that I've brought it home I'm completely in love with it! It's extremely soft and pretty and huge! I'll take a picture of it and post it tomorrow, along with the animals I said I'd photograph.
I also got a magnetic poetry kit, rooster statue, rooster coasters, a little hen sculpture, a robin ornament, a nice stack of books including one by George Carlin, candles, a set to make photo coasters (will probably make them for my grandma), dog bowls and toys, and um...a bunch of other stuff. A lot of stuff. I imagine tomorrow, when the actual yard sale itself takes place (and I also plan on going to some thrift stores) I will end up with even more random stuff! I also need to remember to take a picture of Gaia, my group's Peregrine Falcon, because she's our only education animal I don't have photos of yet, and she's absolutely beautiful.
Also, on another note, apparently Victoria Stilwell from It's Me or the Dog on Animal Planet is going to be at Woofstock on Sunday! Totally going to get an autograph and say hello, as I love her show and watch it regularly. I like her much better than Cesar, who I've found has fairly confrontational methods and a flawed basis of pack structure (dogs are social animals, but not actual pack animals like wolves). Of course he has his good points, too, but much of what he says and does with dogs is hard for an average person to replicate, and can even be very damaging to the dogs he's working with. :( Victoria is much more practical, pragmatic, and never physically threatens the dogs she works with. If anyone wants to watch a series on how to transform dog behavior, I recommend It's Me or the Dog over Dog Whisperer any day. I spent a lot of time watching Dog Whisperer and enjoyed it for a while, but the more I've read about dog behavior, the more I've become convinced he's not going about it in the right way and uses outdated methods.
I keep writing entries and then just hitting a "wall" suddenly where I have nothing else to say! I have hit it now, so I shall excuse myself for the night.
