pacificpikachu: (OMFG HARAKEN)
Friday, I went to see The Cove with Sue. It's an extraordinary documentary--not only moving and painful and saddening, but also thrilling, beautiful, and at times a bit humorous. I'd encourage absolutely everyone to go see it if it's playing near you at all--it really is fantastic, and well worth your time, travel, and the cost of admission. (I drove over an hour to go see it, and it was even better than I expected!) It's about the slaughter of 23,000+ dolphins in Taiji, Japan that happens every year in a secluded cove, and the amazing people who are fighting to end it. It sounds incredibly depressing and horrifying, and it is, but at the same time the documentary is made so that it tells a story, and it tells it very well. Despite the upsetting subject matter, it manages to put you through a full spectrum of emotion and keep you entertained and interested the whole way through. Really, go see it. And then, help fight the problem. This is an animal rights issue that we can change--and soon--if enough people know about the problem and make some simple steps to speak up about it.

School starts tomorrow! As usual, I procrastinated until the very end because I'm smart like that to figure out my schedule, but it looks like this is going to be another light semester whether I want it to be or not. In one way, it's nice because it means I don't have to do a whole lot and the classes I take are interesting, but in another respect it's rather unpleasant, as it means I don't make progress toward finishing my major at the speed I would like to. (Granted, there are only six classes I can take now to have all the classes done for my major/vet school that I can take at Sierra College, so it's not as though I've been totally slacking or anything.) This time, though, it's just a matter of scheduling. The times and places that the courses I would need all don't work out. D: Annoying! Oh well--I was wondering if perhaps a light to moderate (hopefully leaning more towards moderate, but alas) schedule would be for the best this semester, just because I am still working on getting my focus and motivation more fine-tuned. Maybe with a schedule like this, I'll be able to get a part-time vet office job or something. I think I'm up for that now. :)

Friday before going to see The Cove, Sue and I volunteered at the center and...gasp, we actually got birds in this time! It's nearly the end of the season, so it's been slow lately, but, yes. Two whole birds. One was an adult Western Bluebird, seems to have been a window crash bird, with some manner of spine issue. Could have been a bruised spine, possibly, and in that case the bird will need a few weeks to a few months of recovery period. Despite her difficulties and inability to stand, she gobbled down plenty of mealworms, which to me means there's hope for her yet. :) Then we got in an adorable fledgling house finch, who was chirping up a storm, and other than a few missing feathers appeared to have a clean bill of health. :D

Saturday was a dog day for me. I took all three dogs and went to the dog show at the fairgrounds for four hours! Now, walking three dogs, regardless of size, is a complicated mess so that was a little stressful, and it was very hot, but overall the show was nice, the dogs were well-behaved, and all four of us had a good time. I watched the herding breed competition, and I was quite happy when the Pembroke Welsh Corgi placed second, the Australian Shepherd third, and the Border Collie fourth. ♥ Three of my favorite breeds!

FFF, dog show people can be kind of uppity, though. Honey sometimes growls and snaps at the air around dogs larger than she is (a habit I'm currently training her out of), and she chose to snap at a woman's adorable miniature Australian Shepherd, and when I apologized for her behavior the woman said, "She didn't bite at my dog, she was attacking my dog," and walked away in a huffy manner. Um...what? She did absolutely no damage and did nothing other than snarl and snap once at the air. I mean, Honey was certainly being rude, but I wouldn't call that attacking. D:

And when I said, "What a beautiful border collie!" to one lady who was walking by with her dog, she said haughtily, "She's not a border collie," and walked away. I saw right after she said that that the dog had a docked tail, indicating that she was, in fact, an Australian Shepherd. Uh, but that was seriously the only thing about the dog that indicated she was not a border collie (she looked just like a border collie aside from the docked tail), and in all my years of dog-watching I've rarely seen purely black/white Aussies, so... ??? She could have at least been more polite about it, and regardless I was complimenting her dog. ;;

Also, I was alone at the show and my dogs were really thirsty, so I chose to leave them tied to a chair for literally thirty seconds while I went to get water for them within about forty feet. One of the show dog people happened by and was looking at them, and I said from the distance, "Those are my dogs! I'm just getting them water, be back in a sec!" and when I got back she started lecturing me about how "irresponsible" it was for me to do that.

Whatever, show dog people. I'm just in it to see the pretty dogs. ;; Speaking of which, I went to the dog show again today, and there was the most beautiful husky and the most beautiful border collie there, as well as a super-cute shiba inu. I also got to say hello to yesterday's corgi winner--a female corgi named Hedwig! She had an adorable poofy butt, and it always surprises me how much larger most corgis are compared to mine! Regardless, she was cute.

I also helped mom's friend Maria look at rescue horses on the internet, as she's determined to find a nice rescue horse. :)

Anyway, I'm just rambling now. I haven't been online much lately again. It seems to come in cycles lately--three days of doing lots on the computer, three days away, and so on.

I really need to get packaging and sending soon! I feel bad that I've been so terrible with it over the last six months or so. :/ I really think I just need to ship off the stuff I owe people, sell off the remaining stuff on the comm and Ebay, and then stop selling for a while. I've just been too busy, as well as gotten way too lazy with shipping, and it's getting ridiculous.
