Aug. 14th, 2009 01:09 amTurns out Tux-duck likely has chlamydia (of the avian illness variety, not the STD) on top of his messed-up foot. Now he has to be kept in quarantine away from my other birds, and this chlamydia can actually spread to people as well on rare occasions. I'm not worried about it spreading to me, though I am a little worried about it spreading to my other birds. I think it'll be all right, though--I keep him in the garage away from my other animals and am very careful about hygiene. Thankfully it is treatable, though it requires forty-five days of medication twice a day. D: I'm definitely thinking about taking him to a vet at some point in the next week or so even if it costs me a little because if it turns out there's no way he'll be able to walk again, it would be better to put him down sooner rather than later. Hopefully it won't come down to that, though. I've gotten a bit attached.
Going to see Ponyo tomorrow with Daniell and Makayla after I get off my rehab center shift! I have to drive down to Sacramento to see it, but that's only an hour drive and it'll be fun. I purposefully decided not to see Ponyo until it came out in theaters here, as my friends and I have had a tradition since Spirited Away came out of seeing Miyazaki movies in theaters.
We got in a cuuute baby squirrel at the rehab center today. The day was otherwise quiet, but the squirrel made up for it! She was a little baby, about three or four weeks old, and she had been caught by a cat. All of her siblings were killed by the cat. :( She seemed to be in good shape, though, and Jan (leader of the small mammal team) said earlier in the day she had gotten in another squirrel right around the same age that was cat caught so she'll at least have an adoptive sibling.
Amusingly enough, both my mom and brother were working at the center with me today. XD Ryan got bored fairly quickly after the squirrel came in and left, but my mom stayed until closing and helped screen cages and talked to the volunteers. There's a girl working at the center named Erin who is just entering high school I believe, and we discovered by talking today that we have a lot in common! She wants to be a wildlife vet, loves to write and draw, loves anime and manga, and so on. :D
Honey and I went for a walk at Pioneer Park yesterday, which was fun. ♥ The blackberries in the county are ripe now, so I spent quite a while picking blackberries. Mmm. ♥ I really need to set aside a few hours one day just to go blackberry picking, because I love it.
Oh, and I forgot to mention in the previous entry, but when we went up to Island Lake, on the way I saw my first wild bear! It was a momma bear and her two small cubs, and they crossed the street in front of us. To be honest I didn't see the momma bear or one of her cubs, but I did get to see the other cub run across the road as fast as it could go. It was so adorable! I wish I hadn't missed the mother and other cub, but oh well--at least I can now say I've seen a wild bear! Amazing it took this long for me to see one, as there are quite a few bears in our area.
That's all for now, I guess. ^^
