...Uh, stuff?
Jul. 27th, 2006 10:40 pmI don't remember all that much of yesterday, other than the fact that Ross (dad's scary friend with his three tornado-children) came up, and I went with Jacqui at about 7:40 PM to try to get my two baby robins back to their family. It was unsuccessful, as was the similar attempt this morning. Jacqui, Melissa, and I spent a good three hours in Melissa's yard with the baby robins hoping their mother would come. Two robins came and looked in the basket curiously, and one even seemed like their mother for a while, but in the end neither bird was.
In the meantime, though, we spotted all sorts of other birds, including a family of wild turkeys. The two parent turkeys had at least ten really cute babies. :D We also saw lots of grosbeaks, towhees, acorn woodpeckers, downy woodpeckers, scrub jays, hummingbirds, and others. At a distance, we spotted a huge fire going on, but that was quelled quickly, as evidenced by the smoke petering off.
After we decided to give up on that (and dropped by Swenson's to get some netting), we went back to my house to get the finches, as we determined that it was time for them to go into the flight cage. This transition went mostly well, though the adult female goldfinch with the injured wing kept climbing up the flight cage's walls, and then falling when she tried to fly. ;_; So, Jacqui stuck her in her own cage where she can see the others but can't hurt herself as easily. I also got to feed her two grosbeaks some flowers.
I don't feel like going into great detail about today, so suffice to say I went to a Sierra College counselor to try to sort out my classes. It turned out I hadn't been signed up for the classes I thought I had, so I signed up for most of them today. So far, I have English 1A, Psychology, and Statistics. Here's where the problem comes in, though--I really, really need either a Chemistry or Physics class, but all the Chemistry classes are totally full with no or full waiting lists, and the only Physics class left will NOT work with my schedule at all, no matter how hard I try to rearrange it. It's baffling and I'm not sure what I should do.
I also gave White Weeter and his son [guinea pigs, by the way] away to Ross and family. Normally I wouldn't do that to any living creature, but they really wanted them, I needed a home for the guys, and I honestly think they've matured enough and gotten enough experience with guinea pigs to handle it. I interrogated them fully (almost obsessively, really) before they took the guys and they really seem to have their stuff together. Plus, they already have a guinea pig named PB who they've had for six years, so they can't be doing much wrong. Well, I hope they have a good life! I really didn't want to give the guys away, but having six guinea pigs is a bit too overwhelming. I'm going to miss them.
It turns out it was somewhat good we didn't get the robins back to their mom anyway, because Janey called today with another cat-caught fledgling robin who is very lonely and depressed. I imagine he'll perk up quite a bit when he gets to see the others.
That's pretty much today. I think, at least. I'm sure I missed something, but...eh. I spent a lot of time watching and burning AMVs. And reading about childfree-ness. But both of those are things I do on a daily basis, so they're not really a big deal.
