Ducklings. :(
Jun. 5th, 2006 06:56 pmToday was...a really, really interesting day. @_@
So, I got up, gathered my birds, did the usual morning routine, etc. Mom and I left for school slightly late, but I wasn't too worried about it. However, on the highway that's on my usual route to school, there was an accident (therefore causing a big blockage), so we had to turn around and take the backroad. At this point, it was 7:12 AM so I quietly resigned myself to the fact that I was definitely going to be late.
As we were driving the back road, I noticed...a group of little ducklings in the middle of the road. At the same moment I noticed them, my Mom gasped and said "They hit the mother!", so we pulled over to the side of the road immediately. The poor mother duck thrashed and flailed for a while before dying. It was very upsetting. ;_; The people who hit her didn't even stop or anything. So, I immediately took off after the babies (about ten of them) who managed to safely cross the rest of the street and scatter into the bushes in someone's front yard. No one was home at the house, so we didn't feel bad pursuing them. While Mom and I tried to come up with a strategy, I called Jacqui on what I should do if I was able to catch them. We got that worked out. Unfortunately, though we looked for them for well over an hour (and recall I was on the way to school before this happened, and we still had six hungry, angry jays in the car), we didn't find them again. It was really upsetting to have to leave the baby ducks behind, but at this point there was nothing else we could do. I had already become thoroughly sopped going through wet bushes (the sprinkler was going off), and no matter how hard we looked they were nowhere to be seen. Poor little duckies...
So, seeing as I was late already, we went by Jacqui's to drop the jays off before Mom dropped me off at school. The attendance office people where fine with what happened and I arrived just in time for second period.
Second period was amusing, though I was still a little sad about the ducklings. The class showed their candidate videos, most of which were complete and total crack. Dance routines, video editing, unconventional stands on issues, bad acting, scandals, badmouthing the other candidates and all. XD; Because we'll be voting on second period's videos tomorrow, one of the second period candidates did a dirty but tasty tactic and brought us all cookies that said "Vote for ____ (Whatever his name was)" on them. XD;; 'Twas fun.
Third period, Mom had written me a note saying that I'm sick (which I am--bad sore throat, headaches, and a little wooziness, along with typical cold symptoms), so I slept all period. Yep, that's right. I sat up against a fence and slept. Albeit a bit uncomfortably, but it was certainly better than running laps.
Lunch/fifth, I sat around, listened to music, and watched Zoe and Kathryn sign my yearbook. I think I probably did something else, too, and I seem to be under the impression something interesting happened during lunch or fifth period, but seeing as I can't seem to recall said instance, I'll simply conclude it might have been fictional and skip it.
Sixth period--haha, if we thought we were done with Sean's Ms. Parker tribute, we were wrong. With much amusement, we all assembled and ran towards the camera, danced, sat in class looking "mildly suprised" while he panned over us, and some more dancing took place. Very amusing. The rest of the period was devoted to correcting the 1984 test, which was significantly less interesting.
During seventh period, I tried to go to the library, but it was closed, so I ended up in the art room doing nothing. Luckily, after a stretch of monotony, Kathryn showed up and broke the boredom. ^^ So, we listened to music and talked casually about stuff, and at some point Shinji (Jeremy, for those who don't know his nickname) showed up. We had a rather amusing conversation with him. He was asking us how to talk to the opposite gender without being flirtatious (neither Kathryn nor I have had experience with this problem, as neither of us flirt, but we had fun answering his question anyway). He also asked for me to write him a list of J-rock singers and bands I like, so I did. Gleefully.
Mom picked me up, and at first I got my hopes up and thought someone called about the ducklings or something because Mom had two cat carriers in the back of the car, but it turned out to be unrelated. Actually, we made a trip up to Mom's friend Maryanne's house because her cat Pooters was bitten pretty badly on his backside by a raccoon (it's going to require surgery and everything). The two cats she has, Pooters and Oscar, were also gravely overdue for their Rabies shots, and seeing as Maryanne only had one cat carrier we needed to deliver one to her.
After that, we picked Ryan and the birds up, and because Mom needed to drop her car off at a car place to get some of the panels fixed (Lily chewed them up because she freaked out when she heard someone snap a whip at the stables), we met up with Maryanne again once the vet appointment was over so she could give us a ride home.
On the way home, I inquired as to whether Ryan wanted to go to the Pillows concert. He initially said yes, but when I probed him more at length he said he didn't care that much. So I talked him out of it, thus fixing all transportation and ticket issues for the trip. Yaaay!
The rest of the day was spent feeding the birds, looking at the holes where the posts for the chicken coop are going to be, and being criticized for the fact that I forgot I was supposed to be recorded for TV today reading my story and completely forgot. ._.;; Well, it's been one heckuva day--it's no surprise I forgot. With my sore throat, I'm not sure my reading-out-loud abilities would get very far, anyway.
So, that's all, I guess. Tomorrow is my last full day of high school~! I don't think I'm ever going to recover from that duck incident. It was so sad. ;_;
