Okay, I'm totally wet from running around in the rain outside the movie theater in nothing but my usual shorts and t-shirt, but I must write this entry before I change. It was SUCH a completely awesome day, I don't even know what to say about it.
During Art--TA Period Pt II, I...in short, just played Gameboy all period. Yeah. Exciting.
After that, we were out of school, and I quickly met up with Cody and KK. Cody gave KK and I a ride home because he had major studying to do, so KK and I had six free hours during which we could do whatever we wished.
At first, we kind of didn't know what to do, so we read these (
http://www.capalert.com/capreports/index.htm#PLIST) reviews of movies and went into hysterics over how silly they are. I mean... "suggestive eye movement"?! They get worst than that, too, I'm just not going to bother finding more examples. So, we decided to apply this logic to our lives. We concluded that under CAP Alert standards, our lives are pretty darn risque. (For the record, by normal standards, they are not risque at all. XD)
Then we decided to go for a walk to get some candy from the gas station for Brokeback Mountain. The gas station is about a three-minute walk from my house. It took us four hours to get to buying the candy, because we did what can only be described as the Ultimate Roundabout Route. As we were on our way to the gas station, just past King Hiram Lane, Ari pulled up with a "Hello, strangers!" She was on her way to a massage client on Gracie. She didn't know how to get to Gracie, so we got in her car and we gave her directions to Gracie, where she dropped us off. ^_^ We figured it was a nice way to prolong our walk.
So, we went to the old steel mill I used to hang out at with Britta when I was younger. We used to catch lizards and snakes, and just generally sit around for hours on end there. By now it's been re-bought and rearranged, and there are fences around it and "No Trespassing" signs. Naturally, this didn't stop us. We wandered around on the property for a while, and then headed towards Pioneer Park. From Pioneer Park, we headed for the cemetary nearby.
This...was a really cool experience. I don't know why, but for some reason it gave me an immense sense of peace--just meandering around the cemetary, reading epitaphs, checking out the cool headstones, and philosophizing on life, death, and everything. It was really...meaningful, and peaceful, sort of dreamlike in a way. We decided at some point we're going to buy flowers and bring them to a random, abandoned grave, and also that we might go to the cemetary sometime and do things like sweep off headstones buried by pine needles and other general maintenance. We spent a total of forty minutes in the cemetary.
We actually saw Mrs. Mclean and another teacher there--presumably mourning the teacher who recently passed away of cancer. She had a tissue in her hand and we only saw her from a distance, but I'm fairly sure it was her.
After that, we headed to Makayla's house, just to drop by and say "Hello!" for about thirty seconds. After we left, though, she came and caught up with us and joined us on our walk. The three of us took a roundabout route to the Tea Shop, which was where we stayed for about fifteen or twenty minutes. Makayla bought some really good peach apricot tea, which KK and I had a sip of, and the rest of the time was spent browsing all the cool merchandise, petting the sweet old kitty that lives there, and talking to a nice older woman who was a tea enthusiast, too.
As KK said in her entry, we had some pretty hysterical ideas while wandering around. ("Gaywatch" not being the least of them. We want to find some random way to create this, just so we can laugh about it for the rest of our lives. XD) I don't remember what most of them were, but they were wonderful.
From there, we went to the candle shop (smelled a bunch of the candles and decided which ones we liked and didn't like) and the Harmony Books (looking for Brokeback Mountain, actually--which we located easily, though none of us had the money to buy it).
Again, we took a slightly odd route back up to the gas station (AKA our original destination) and I bought some candy. We went back to my house from there. We started watching the Naruto OAV that came with one of the video games, but it wasn't subbed, so...naturally, instead of actually trying to translate, we semi-fan-dubbed it. Its story became the story of how all of Konoha discovered that Naruto and Sasuke were...uh...doing things, shall we say? So, um...insanity insues. Pretty funny stuff. When we finished with that, we got hooked on watching humor AMVs, and ended up watching the first 3/4 of AMV Hell 3 in my room and laughing a ton. We had such a great time.
Cody picked us up at 6 PM, as planned, and then we went and picked up Nicole and headed off for Del Oro. At one point, we forgot where we were going (yes, all four of us) and ended up at Sierra Cinemas, but this was corrected easily enough. ^^;
Cody just dropped us off because he had finals to study for and engagements with his family (T_T), but we all thanked him and went off to buy our tickets.
Errr...one problem with this theory. The girl at the counter was ID'ing, and although Makayla and I are both legal age to see R-rated movies, neither of us has ID of any sort to prove it. And KK and Nicole are underage anyway. So...um...it took a lot of persuading for me, and I was a bit paranoid because of it, but we snuck in. ^^;; It was really, really easy, actually.
The movie...I can't even say how brilliant it was. It's easily one of my favorite live-action movies EVER, and...wow, I was so affected. I really felt this deep empathy with the feelings of the characters, and it was just
beautiful in every sense of the word. It had better win the Oscar. I'm going to be pissed if it doesn't. It deserves it completely and fully. I'm buying it the second it comes out. I expect every single one of you who reads this text to go out and see it. I swear--it's worth it. It was gorgeous and wonderful and I can't express how deep it went. Everything was brilliant--the storytelling, the acting, the camera work, just...everything. I can't even scrape the surface by talking about it--you have to go see it for yourself.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. So heartbreaking.
We stood out in the pouring rain for a while afterwards, discussing and spinning and running and being silly with each other (not to mention getting completely sopped). Makayla's dad came and picked us up eventually, and that's where I am now.
Today was a great, great day. Simple, friend-oriented, thoughtful, funny, fulfilling... I loved every second of it. (Except maybe the Powerpoints. Those were pretty boring.)
EDIT: Added some details I just remembered. You know--for the sake of remembering them.
