Aug. 26th, 2013 12:05 amI feel like I'm getting lazy about LJ again! It's a silly fear, but sometimes I'm scared that I'll accidentally drift away from LJ, as if I would just forget about it somehow? That isn't going to happen, it's just a paranoid thought. I still check my friends list several times a day, though it doesn't move as fast as it used to.
I'm now back into surreal land about the fact that I've met Yoko Kanno, ahhh! It wasn't even that long ago! It's hard to believe even though I have the autograph. Of course, every time I remember (even if I don't 100% comprehend it), I feel really happy and elated and in disbelief. That concert...! ♥ I have too many feelings about Yoko Kanno.
The neighbors are pissed about the roosters, which sucks. They're going to write the county about it apparently. I'm pretty sure we're within our rights, and I think the worst case scenario would have to be moving the pens (expensive and a big hassle, but better than parting with any birds), but it still makes me nervous. Mom talked to them and apparently they were not nice about it at all. D: The good thing is that my friend might be giving me a 16' partitioned cage, so I should be able to move at least some of the roosters elsewhere on the property without too much issue. It's just a matter of transporting that monster, but renting a flatbed trailer is actually not that expensive, so I think it should work out!
I saw the documentary Blackfish recently. I'm happy I got to see it, because it wasn't listed as playing anywhere near me and I wanted to see it as soon as possible. Turns out a tiny independent theater near me was playing it, so mom and I went to see it. It was everything I hoped it would be, which is to say very revealing, fast-paced, and emotional (but not overly). I have a big connection to orcas--I actually dream about them all the time--so I'm really happy this documentary was made, revealing the abuses both of the orcas and the trainers by SeaWorld. I hope this gets the ball rolling for more change with captive cetaceans, especially because it'll be airing on CNN in October.
One of my good friends from high school came over and visited this last week. I hadn't seen her in years before this Fanime, then we talked for a bit at Fanime. It was really nice seeing her for a slightly more extended period of time, though! She ended up busy and we didn't get to spend as much time as I wanted, but we got to watch Wolf Children together (which she loved) and Little Witch Academia and get all excited about animation in general together (she went to school to be an animator after being inspired by TTGL). She'll be back in the area next week so hopefully we'll have time to hang out more! It's awesome when you end up with a friend you haven't seen in a while and everything just clicks back to normal, you know? I wish we could hang out regularly again, but alas, distance.
Also, some nice people responded to my Craigslist ad and came out and bought some Pokémon stuff today. They live really close by and it was nice meeting fellow fans around my age-ish. They just moved here from Maine recently! I also gave them a quick tour of my collection. I hope I didn't scare them off with my collection, hahaha...
I feel like, for now, things are a good balance between busy and not. I wish I could have gone to Japan Expo this weekend, but of course I'm far too broke after Otakon! I've done three big cons in the last three-ish months, so it's all right--I've gotten a good dose of cons. Hopefully I can go next year, it sounds like it was a fun little con. I'm selling at Sac-Anime Swap Meet next Friday. If it's even a fraction of the success of Sac-Anime in January, that would be amazing! I'll go in expecting modest profit at best and if it exceeds that, great! I can use some money for Japan shipping for my next box...and beginning to slowly chip away at all the Umbreon merchandise I need to catch up on! I've been getting little items here and there, at least.
I guess that's all for now~! Just playing Animal Crossing still, and getting SUPER EXCITED about X/Y and Pocket Monsters: The Origin! Enjoying Free! and Shingeki no Kyojin each week (and the fandoms equally as much as the series) and there are series coming up in the next six months that I'm excited about, too. Aside from the chicken-related grievances lately (losing the birds I lost recently, and dealing with the neighbors), everything's looking pretty decent for now.

Date: 2013-09-02 01:18 am (UTC)I got a chance to catch Blackfish when I was in Pittsburgh on vacay this weekend. (It wasn't coming anywhere close to me.) Definitely an eyeopener! I am really been changing a lot of my stances on Cetacean captivity for a few years now and I really hope for change as well, especially at big businesses like SeaWorld who have the capital to fix things.

Date: 2013-09-02 01:42 am (UTC)I'm glad you saw it! I thought it was a wonderful documentary and the information was presented very well. That footage of one of the orcas dragging the trainer under repeatedly by his foot really got to me. It sure as hell looked intentional. I had read about most of the information it showed before through research I did, but I'm so happy it was all compiled together and it's reaching a lot of people! I'm really glad to hear that you're changing your stance on cetacean captivity. More and more information is coming out and bringing light to the situation, and it's awesome that you're allowing your views to change as you learn more. It takes courage to change beliefs that you've had for a long time. :)
