おおかみこどもの雨と雪
Mar. 7th, 2013 01:36 amI just watched Ookami Kodomo no Yuki to Ame. I was expecting to enjoy it, as I've generally enjoyed Hosoda's works, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. It was quite a beautiful movie. I found the ending a bit abrupt, or maybe not as fulfilling as I was hoping, but otherwise I thought the movie was incredibly beautiful and had many gorgeous moments that will stay with me for a long time. The attention to detail in the animation was just stunning, and I found the story moving and insightful in many subtle but interesting ways. It seemed so filled with both human emotion and reverence for the natural world. It was a simple but rich movie.
I normally hate the whole "animals with human hair" concept and I'm not a fan of anthros in general, so this still seemed awkward to me in this, but it was such a wonderful movie that it doesn't really matter. The wolves were well-animated, although their movement was more dog-like than wolf-like to me. Which makes sense, as dogs are more easily observable to people anyway. I was more impressed with the movement of the wolves than the actual drawings of them, but this is just totally splitting hairs because I've drawn and closely observed animals since I was little. Sometimes I think I should become someone who works with animation studios critiquing the drawings of and movement of animals in animated movies, because I could go on and on about this subject. I'm far too opinionated and picky about it!
There was something I really adored about this movie that I can't quite express. It resonated with me. I want to watch it more times and think about it more.
Anyway, I highly recommend it. It was truly a lovely movie, and one I look forward to occasionally rewatching to appreciate it even better.
