Feb. 7th, 2013 07:11 pmNot much to say lately, and my internet was being annoying the past few days, but I think the mere act of shutting my computer down and booting it back up fixed it somehow.
Went birdwatching yesterday, which was nice--if a bit chaotic for birdwatching, between five dogs and three people. (I went with my mom, her friend, our three dogs, and my mom's friend's two dogs.) It seems most of the snow geese are on their way home on the Pacific flyway, though. I had fun looking at all the ducks and waterbirds, nonetheless. Mostly pintails and northern shovelers and coots, but there were quite a few other species as well--mallard, cinnamon teal, bufflehead, and quite a few others.
There was a towhee in the chicken coop this morning. I'm baffled as to how she got in! I caught the towhee, she bit me (not hard), and I let her go as soon as I got out out of the coop.
Michiko to Hatchin was, indeed, quite a disappointment. It felt like such a pointless series, ultimately. It's a shame, because as I said before, it had good music, style, an interesting setting, and I liked at least the idea of characters, if not so much the characters themselves. Also, it had such great diversity and a female director, so I wanted to love it, but I just...didn't. When the characters reached their goal at the end, it ended up being meaningless basically, and honestly I wasn't convinced of the reasoning/emotion behind the whole journey to begin with. Most of the one-shot characters were forgettable and the stories were boring and badly ended for the most part. There was too little focus on the main characters and not much development for them. I'm baffled as to why the writing and storytelling of this series with so much promise fell so, so terribly flat. I feel like I could have written it better, even just improvising as I went along. Can't say I recommend it.
I'm now watching (way overdue) FMA: Brotherhood! Finally! I've been meaning to watch it since it came out, but it's always a bit hard for me to get started on longer series. I saw the original anime a decade ago, and mostly loved it, although the movie and ending were extremely "???" (And yes, I know about how the first series diverged from the manga and all that, I have lots of friends in the fandom so I hear quite a bit about it.) I've always enjoyed the themes and ideas and characters of FMA. Anyway, I'm enjoying it a lot so far. I've heard complaints about the pacing, at least in the beginning, but it works fine for me, for whatever reason. The Nina story still kills me, every time, aughhh. So disturbing and sad. Anyway, seven episodes in.
PokéScans has been getting a lot of new followers! It's a fun blog to run. :D
