Having trouble feeling motivated with my novel right now. ;; On the 5th, I hit my stride and everything was going great! I was too busy yesterday to write because of the election and work, and I've been so exhausted today that I didn't do much. Now I just don't want to write at all. I feel bad about it, because I've finished my 50k every year (and I'm not even behind yet), but I just feel like, "Meh, I don't want to write. I just want to sit and do pointless things."

I'll probably still force myself to write tonight, but for now I just don't want to. ;;

Instead, I'm randomly reading awkward smut of my OTP, but it's really, really bad. It's like a romance novel, with lines that keep making me pause to go, "Wat. Are you serious?" I almost never read smut, I just clicked on it on a whim because why not, but this is making me embarrassed, aughhh. Not because it's smut, just because it's awful.

Grammatically and spelling-wise it's fine, but the descriptions are just so flowery and all the lines are exactly what any generic romance characters would say. It just...I keep laughing because it's so generic and silly. Ffghafhafbka. Characterization is not working, all the clichés in the book, just. No.

Anyway, uh...yeah.

Oh, and I can't find my tablet pen! I'm really annoyed because now of course I want to actually use it and it's nowhere to be found. I'm sure it's somewhere around, but who knows where.

Standard smut does absolutely nothing for me, but I love the horrible stuff, especially if it has flowery euphemisms everywhere. Hilarious!

I don't read smut generally. Just doesn't interest me. If something is good enough, I"m open-minded, though.

But this...gahhh. It was just barely to the "this is so bad it's amusing" level, it was mostly just awkward and bad with the occasional line that got me laughing. It was so generic and unrealistic and so much no. For what it's worth, I LOVE absolutely terrible smut, though. Few things in the world that are funnier.

(Hentai Room at Fanime is the best thing. Everyone is skeptical before they go, and then once you go once, you go every con.)

Haha the same exact thing happened to me yesterday XD I stumbled upon a fic and I was in a mood because fanfictions often inspire me, and this one started kinda good so I kept reading and then suddenly... a revelation, they go I love you, and I love you too, and BAM and inevitable sex scene followed. Awkwardly bad written sex scene, it had pretty much all generic common scenarios and all the cheesy lines you could imagine. Ugh. I barely finished it, and I only did because I hate not finishing reading what I start :(

Hope the pen and writing mood will magically show up in the morning!

LOL, bad sex scenes are really annoying! They just screw up all the dynamics. It surprises me that there are so many bad sex scenes. It feels like even people who can write well otherwise somehow will still resort to clichés when writing sex? I don't get it.

Still no pen, but hopefully it'll turn up! The writing mood comes and goes. XD

I love reading smut, but damn, sometimes some of the phrases they use just make it embarrassingly awkward! I mean, I know it's a delicate balance trying to describe things without only using strictly anatomical terms, but some of the, uh, metaphors they come up with... haha, total mood-ruiners!

I could enjoy smut if it was good enough (I can enjoy anything if it's good enough, haha), but it seems like most of the time when I come across it, it's just so, so bad! It seems like a lot of people are bad at writing it. Funny enough, I think I'd be good at writing smut, but I'm not really interested in doing that? And I think I'd die of embarrassment, too. Really awful smut is hilarious, but kind of in-between smut is just awkward...

The bad stuff does tend to overwhelm! I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people do it in hopes it'll make them popular, or are younger authors trying to be "adult" or "edgy". I think some of the worst are when it's really obviously someone who's never had sex and also has a complete lack of understanding of how it works, haha.
You know, I think I might end up being good at writing it, too. Though the only time I think seriously about starting without feeling weirdly self-conscious is if I've been drinking, and then I only ever get as far as hammering out a few paragraphs before getting distracted/tired. XD

To be fair, I think a lot fanfiction is bad in general (I don't even mean that in a negative way--I LOVE fanfiction to a ridiculous degree and grew up with it, but I think most of us would agree that the majority of it is bad), but it just seems like smut has a higher percentage of bad to it than usual, haha. I agree, I think some of it is younger people writing it based off of reading bad porn themselves, and a lack of actual understanding, so then they just perpetrate the same crazy misinformation they read in the first place.

LOL! Go figure, that would be the thing to strip away those inhibitions. I don't think I'd actually write smut, but somehow on the rare occasion that I do read frustratingly bad smut, it makes me want to prove that I could write it better. If I actually started writing words down, though, I think I'd get all "dkjsfhshgjsd what am doing?" about it.
