Novel summary
Oct. 31st, 2012 10:29 pmThis is the half-assed summary I posted on NaNo's site just now, though, being a summary, of course it doesn't include much:
"Garrett is a 25-year-old guy, living in the second story of his mom's condo. He's a generic romance author by trade, but a cynical one--he does it for the easy money and ample time off. Sick of trolling his own fans online and feeling emasculated when he tells his friends what his real career is, he sits down and writes a dark epic and sends it to his publisher.
Months later, back to the drudgery of writing terribly romance novels, and he's all but forgotten his dark epic. That is, until it is published. From there, everything changes. The novel triggers every manner of reaction: Hate mail, love mail, murders, suicides, cults, riots, and fans who will do anything to get closer to him. An unstable girl who claims to be the love interest in his novel moves in next door, and begins inviting herself into his life without his permission or interest.
Various government forces, the media, and his entire readership are breathing down his neck, but really all he wants is to be left alone. Unable to cope with the pressure and guilt from the damage his book has caused, he tries to figure out what to do with his life next."
I'm sure something (many things?) just like it have already been written, but what's one more, right? Nothing is really original, and I'm excited to write this because I think it's going to be really interesting. I feel like 50k is only going to put a dent into it, but oh well. It's definitely just about characters and human interaction and morality, so I'm not going to fuss with details about publishing, how the FBI really works, or any of that.
I just hope it'll have as much momentum as I'm thinking it will! Just an hour and a half until I start writing!
