Started Sakamichi no Apollon, which is the first thing Yoko Kanno and Shinichiro Watanabe have worked on together since Cowboy Bebop. Seeing as Cowboy Bebop is one of my all-time favorite series, and I dig everything I've seen by Shinichiro Watanabe, and I worship Yoko Kanno as a goddess, of course I had to check it out!
Only two episodes in and I already have all these feelings about it! The characters have already grown on me somehow. I'm a bit sad that it will be only twelve episodes, but it'll be interesting to see where it goes. I'm amazed at how emotionally involved I am already.
When I started it, I was a bit confused--it's josei, which isn't exactly what I would predict Shinichiro Watanabe to work on. Then again, that's what's fun about him. Well, there's jazz, and a little fighting, but other than that!
I was blah about the art style for all of about two minutes, then I began liking it and now I love it. The art is so beautiful, and the use of color and soft shading. Pretty and expressive.
Of course, the music is awesome so far and I know it's just going to get better and better. Can't wait for the soundtrack(s)!
It reminds me vaguely of Honey & Clover in a way, probably because of the theme song being performed by YUKI, and it's josei, and a certain scene at the end of episode two. Seeing as I adore Honey & Clover, this is a great thing.
Anyway, I love it so far and I'm very excited to see the rest! I sense an edge of darkness in it, I have a feeling that there are some painful things ahead. I won't spoil myself to anything that happened in the manga, I want to be surprised!
