Shall we end my blogging year on a happy note? I think so!

I'm more proud about this than I deserve (considering I haven't done any of the work, just happened to be in the right online place at the right time), but that's just too bad because I insist on feeling good about it.

Around a week ago, maybe a little more, I was on Facebook briefly during my lunch break at work. One of my Facebook friends, who runs a small farm animal sanctuary in another state, posted desperately about a laboratory pig who needed to find a place to go within twenty-four hours or she would be put down.

Working at a farm animal sanctuary as I do, I messaged her immediately and got the contact information for the lab, then passed it on to my supervisor.

Long story short, Jamie, the animal care manager, ended up driving to another state to pick her up, and brought her to her new home the other day.

If I hadn't seen that post, chances are she would have been put down. It's difficult to find homes for large breeds of pigs, as most people don't have the facilities for them or knowledge. Now she will live a full and happy life.

This young pig, named Tiffany, was born and raised indoors at a lab associated with a school. (That's as specific as I can be due to confidentiality, sorry.) She had literally never been outside in her entire life before a few days ago. Apparently they were studying her GI tract by scoping her insides, but they didn't do any surgery or anything on her. (Sadly, any animal who actually has invasive procedures done is killed.) Now she has a big pasture and barn while she gets used to the great outdoors and learns how to be a proper pig.

She will be around 1000 pounds when she is full grown, and will join the other large pigs at the sanctuary fairly soon! I know she's not still at that adorable little piglet stage, but she is so smart and sweet, and I'm happy that I facilitated her living instead of dying. ;0;

I just took these as I was leaving, in the dim lighting, and she was moving so most of them came out blurry. But here she is!

Clearest face picture, and of course she was chewing on something and therefore making a silly face:

She's about six feet long, which sounds big but trust me...it's not for a pig.

Was going to delete this one, but it clearly shows her lab ear tag so I decided to keep it in:

It's amazing how sometimes just one phone call or e-mail can save lives. The same thing happened months ago with the nineteen turkey hens, who would be dead but instead are living happily because I just happened to call the right person at the right time.
