Soooo I've been offered the administrative position at work on more than temporary basis, which would double the amount of hours I work to thirty hours a week. I'm definitely leaning towards saying yes, pretty sure I'm going to, but I promised my boss I'd give myself a few days to seriously think about it before officially deciding. The only hesitance I have is that it would make my schedule less open for events, especially because it's probable I'll be working all day on Saturdays. That said, I may sometimes be able to move that to Mondays or something. Basically, three days a week I'd work eight hours, the other two I'd work my usual three hours, and then I'd have two days off. I think it'll likely go well, but I just hope it won't mean missing out on too many things I want to do. Then again, really, I can only think of a few things a year I definitely go to--Fanime, Anime Expo, Yaoi-Con, the PPBA chicken show, and the Night of Writing Dangerously. Hanging out with friends and stuff can be done on my off days or after work, it's not like hanging out is exclusively a Saturday thing.

I think, considering most of the time I'd be doing these extra hours would otherwise just be spent watching TV and browsing the internet, it would be very productive, enjoyable, and good for me. Not to mention I'd make twice what I do now, which is a pretty considerable jump. I could use it! Plus, it's working at the sanctuary, which I love, and it's mostly just data entry and things like putting labels and stamps on envelopes and stuff. It's actually kind of relaxing, to be honest. I may look into getting an iPod or something to listen to while I'm doing these tasks, we'll see.

My serama friend Ray came over to visit today, and then I went to his house to check out his seramas. He has a bunch of stunning birds! I have some that I have my eye on if he decides he doesn't want to keep them. He and I swap birds all the time, he took two of my cockerels last time and gave me a serama hen, Kisses. He actually gave me a new hen today that I'm excited about. She's not a serama, but a bantam golden phoenix pullet. I have four silver phoenixes, two standards (I've had them for 11-12 years now) and two bantams, but this is my first golden. She is really pretty and has a long tail for a hen! Her name is Fiona, and his birds were picking on her so I think she'll be happier in my more spacious coop. My mixed flock is fairly chill anyway, they don't generally bully anyone.

Mom was unable to pick up the two shelter hens today for me because she stayed longer with my grandma, so that's a bit disappointing! I'm making arrangements for them to get out of the shelter tomorrow, though. I work during the shelter's hours of operation and the shelter is forty-five minutes away, so it's difficult to work out what to do. One of my wildlife rehab friends in that area is going to take them in temporarily tomorrow until I can get down that way to pick them up at her house in the evening. I just hope it works out this time, I don't want the poor girls to have to hang around there any longer.

Things are good here. I feel so much more awake with the Adderall, it's like a fog lifted from my mind. On the downside, I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, but I think I'll adjust.

Congratulations on the job offer! It can totally be scary thinking of your free time possibly being eaten up, but it dosen't sound like such a bad schedule, and chances are if you need time off for cons and such a couple times a year, you'll be able to take a couple days' vacation. :) Plus it sounds like the extra money and structure will be good for you, especially doing something you care about!

Good luck with everything!

Thank you! And yes, I am a little scared to give up free time because I do enjoy it, but the schedule really isn't that terrible and it goes by very quickly anyway. I should be able to arrange my vacations I think! It removes a little of the spontaneity in my life, but it's not like I honestly do that much anyway, haha. Not like I REALLY need to sit around those fifteen hours a week and watch re-runs on TV or check my e-mail three thousand times. XD

The extra money and structure will be good, and it's nice because it's still in the place with the same people where I already work, so it won't be a huge adjustment. It's also a plus to the sanctuary because they don't have to spend the money, time, and effort hiring a brand new person, and they already know I'm reliable, motivated, etc.

Haha, yeah.. most times, it's not even that bad once you start working around it. When I started looking for my first job, I had that same "MY SCREWING-AROUND TIME IS BEING THREATENED" paranoia, but I can still totally for the most part manage what I want to do. c:

Right! Plus, it's gotta mean you're doing something right if they offered you the position instead of looking elsewhere!

There's all those studies that show teens/college students that work a job and study do better than those that just "study." I know for a fact that you enjoy free time more when you don't have it as much, and you're technically more productive Because you want to enjoy free time.

In other words, for 5 weeks out of 52 you'd switch Sat for Mon. That'd easily be covered under vacation days! ...Well, if you get vacation days. >>

Exactly! I've found that, too. I seem to have this silly mindset where the more free time I have, the happier I am, but in reality I'm much happier when I'm busy. Tons of psychological studies back this up, too. It's true, free time has so much more meaning when there's a limit to it. I've found that too much free time actually becomes depressing, things start feeling pointless and I don't use the time well when I feel like I have a lot of it.

I would get vacation days, yep!
