Today has been eventful!
Most importantly, my family has a new foster dog. She is a downright adorable chihuahua/something mix puppy, around 3-5 months old. We went down to the Sutter County shelter today, and it was cold and there were all these tiny, adorable dogs in the shelter, and puppies and just all these fantastic dogs. I wanted to take them all with me. :( One chihuahua mix appeared to have a broken front foot, but she was not yet released for adoption. I'm hoping I can get a rescue in there to go get her when she is released on January 4th because that paw looks painful. Makes me upset that the shelter is required by law to keep her there for so long, she really needs medical attention. The puppy we got out is a total sweetheart and seems very intelligent. She is also very thin and a bit sick--perhaps an upper respiratory infection. I've named her Tippy, because she has white-tipped toes and a white-tipped tail. Strangely, she was found as a stray with a pink dog jacket on, and no one ever came to claim her.
I also got a new cell phone. A pretty blue one with a big screen and mp3 capability! It's about time, I've had my previous phone for years and the stupid thing no longer holds a charge for more than, say, ten hours. I took some pictures of Tippy with it (kind of grainy because of bad lighting/cell phone pictures), and finally got to uploading pictures of the swan before it died.
For some reason Tippy looks way bigger than she is in pictures. She's probably 7-10 lbs max and won't get much bigger than that. Any ideas of what sort of mix she is?

This picture doesn't even do her justice as far as how thin she is. ;.;

All snug in the blanket I gave her to curl up in. ♥
And the swan. These were taken just a day or two before it died. :( Sorry for the messy garage and poop, waterfowl are notoriously messy.

Good picture that shows the height of the swan. I'd guess three feet tall.

Scared eye. :( Also, bloodshot--probably from whatever was wrong with it?

Such a majestic bird! It's a shame it didn't make it, but such is rehabbing. I wish circumstances could have made it so it could've gone to the vet right away, but there's a lot of complications with vet care going on with my rehab group right now. Even if it had gone to the vet immediately, it's possible it was already too late. No real way to know. :/
Anyone in northern California want an adorable puppy (who will be a small adult and seems very smart and responsive), or know someone who does? :D? She'll be up for adoption once she's spayed/no longer sick/has been vaccinated. I can drive her up to a few hours away if I approve a potential adopter for her.
Also, the weather has been crazy! Today was blue skies, then suddenly, out of nowhere, wild hailstorm. Then back to blue skies. Last night a big, windy storm killed the power at my house for a few hours and poured down right. Now it's cold!
And I adopted out a rooster at work today. :D It's a lot of fun working at Animal Place. I really love the staff and animals and gorgeous sanctuary and all of it. ♥

Date: 2010-12-30 12:17 pm (UTC)I love swans, even after a being chased by one while on holiday in France one year (swimming in a lake, I moved around a tree only to be confronted by it!)
