Nov. 29th, 2010 02:54 pmI woke up at 1:30 PM today, fffail. Even though I love to sleep, and love to sleep in to a certain degree, I hate the feeling of waking up past noon. Makes me feel all unproductive and icky.
My four year old laptop has officially begun its downward decline. It's been kind of iffy for a while, but lately I just know, it's time to retire this ol' Toshiba and find a new, shiny laptop friend. This laptop has served me so well, I am really pleased with how it's held up to my constant abuse and how well it still works despite its age. However, it has a big cluster of dead pixels, a missing ALT key, the most disgusting (but perfectly working) keyboard ever that has tons of animal hair under the keys, and it overheats if I use it for more than about an hour and gets extremely slow. Also, it occasionally, completely at random has blue screens of death. Not to mention the fact that it only has a 100 GB hard drive and that doesn't feel like nearly enough. I'm trying to decide whether I should go for a new laptop before or after Christmas. My gut tells me after, but I can't help but be excited at the prospect of a new computer after four years so...yeah, haha. I'm shopping around for sure and comparing my options.
I already posted about it on Facebook, but my super cute little serama cockerel just started crowing. If you feel like crowing is the appropriate way to put it, LOL. He sounds like a little squeaky door, it's the cutest/silliest thing! I wasn't even sure what that goofy high-pitched noise I kept hearing was until I saw him do it with my own eyes.
I forgot to post about it, but I went after work on Friday to hang out with the poultry and rabbits at the sanctuary for over an hour. This was a really special time for me. I sat in the sun in the chicken and turkey pasture for a while and just watched them all enjoying their lives, stretching out in the sun, and living a life where they have tons of space, grass and trees and bushes to enjoy, food and shelter, and will live out the rest of their lives in peace. The rabbits, too. I have never seen domestic rabbits living in such a wonderful situation. They have this huge barn and pasture to themselves, and it was so fun watching them play, run, nibble on grass, socialize, and just enjoy themselves. All of these rabbits came from scientific labs, hoarding situations, or were going to be killed for food. It made me certain I will never have a rabbit again unless I can offer them a situation where they have large expanses of space to run and play. Traditional rabbit cages just seemed like a horrible thing after seeing that. Same thing goes for my caged birds--I have two cockatiels, two lovebirds, and two parrotlets who I adore, but I don't plan on getting more caged birds once mine pass away someday, unless I can offer them an aviary where they can truly stretch fly as much as they want. Hookbills are not truly domesticated anyway--not like dogs, cats, or chickens or anything of that sort. Anyway, spending time at the sanctuary is so peaceful and beautiful. The feeling reminds me of when I'm out birdwatching.
I took pictures, I'll have to upload them soon! Also, pictures of the Night of Writing Dangerously.
Auctions ending today, ahhhh the suspense! Also, I really need to list stuff for sale and start those commissions!

Date: 2010-11-30 08:52 am (UTC)He is! He's so tiny, too--a few months old but still fits on my very small hand without stretching my fingers at all. The two pullets in with him are even smaller. I want to get his goofy squeaky crowing on video, but it might be a little difficult because it's kinda unpredictable when he'll do it. I'll give it a shot, though!
