I'm trying to work on my 2000-ish words for the day, but I got distracted by looking up animal rights stuff. And started crying even though I wasn't looking at graphic videos or pictures. ;____; I know I shouldn't let myself fall into despair, as it certainly accomplishes nothing--and hey, I'm actually making real steps to save real animals (I actually started calling egg farmers today!), and I'm working at a farm sanctuary with all these happy, adorable, wonderful creatures, but sometimes I just get overwhelmed by the massive amount of suffering, most peoples' horrible attitudes about animal rights, and I just feel so small. Baby steps are happening all the time, attitudes are gradually changing about animals, but it just feels like the world I envision and want to be a part of is so, so distant--if it can exist at all. I try to keep my head up, knowing I do save animals and that every animal I save is important, but I am just so ashamed to be a part of this species, knowing what we do to other species. And it doesn't help that most people have this kneejerk, negative reaction to animal rights, trying to justify eating meat with nonsense arguments, making it very difficult to spread the word and have people listen.

For the record, I have an animal rights filter in which I post more detailed thoughts on animal rights related things--most likely mostly ranting, feeling generally very upset, and so on. I only rarely use it and most of you are already sorted in or out of it, but if you're newer to my f-list or never got a chance to say whether you want to be on it, please let me know if you want to be on or not. I am not offended at all by people who opt out of it, it's a pretty heavy subject and can certainly be upsetting. Hell, I generally only ever post on it if I'm really upset. Because I only post on it when I'm emotional to begin with, I simply ask that people be VERY respectful about my views if you comment on anything I post on that filter.

Anyway, that's the reason this post is public. Back to attempting to write and trying to get myself to stop crying.

Thanks to those of you who recommended music! I'm slowly going through the recommendations and replying. :)

Not even limited to other species, unfortunately. Humans treat each other so horribly, it's no wonder they treat other species terribly too...

Yes, of course. I tend to focus on animals just because that's personally my focus and the numbers skew that way (ie, I think all killing and violence as equal no matter what species it's on, but more animals are killed in the meat industry than just about anywhere), but I am just as abhorred by violence towards our own species.

I wish we could just be a peaceful species. :(

I'm going to stay off the filter if that's alright. I generally look at issues from both sides, and as such, I tend to start debates with with people who lean heavily towards one side or the other (even if I'm not trying to). I think it would just breed drama if I was on the filter.

Totally fine, and understandable! :)

I think you could add me and if I am uncomfortable I'll skip it or say something. I'm a veg, though not necessarily for moral reasons, I'm just kind of lazy. I figure I won't be offended.

Sure, that's totally fine! And nice to find another vegetarian, even if you're not passionate about it! :D

Technically speaking I'd be pescetarian (sp) as I like tuna in my mac and cheese. :)

*tight hugs*

I don't know if I'm on the filter, but I'd like to be if I'm not. :)
