Santa Paws Christmas Auction

pacificpikachuI just got back from the Annual Santa Paws Christmas Auction, which is put on by AnimalSave. Naturally, because we foster dogs and cats with AnimalSave, we spent the whole time volunteering. It was a lot of fun, really.
The Santa Paws Auction is a surprisingly big, elaborate event. It takes place at the Miner's Foundary, which is this ancient, beautiful building that is usually used for plays and other special events. The whole Miner's Foundary is decorated with beautiful lights and Christmas trees, and tons and tons of people (mostly pretty rich people) come for the silent auction held there. High school students (most of which I know) get all dressed up and hand out snacks. After all the silent auction tables close, they put out tons of tasty desserts--for free! Yum, I had so much good food to eat... ^^;;
Anyway, I spent most of the time running around and talking with these two 10-year-old girls while we sold raffle tickets for the 50/50 raffle. I became their unofficial babysitter for the event, got to know them pretty well, and I was impressed with them helping out with this charity when they were so young. Their mom was nice, too, and we spent quite a while discussing pets and wolves (I was wearing a wolf shirt and shorts--oops, so much for dressing up!). One of the girls said that for every birthday she has, she donates all of the money she gets to AnimalSave, and she's been doing this for three years now. It's good to know there's hope for the future generations. ^^ I chatted with an elderly lady about our cats for a while, too, and she told me about how much the attitude towards pets has changed positively over the years.
Also, I ran into Cody's mom Sheila a bunch of times, and had short conversations with her. She bought some raffle tickets from the two little girls and I, but unfortunately didn't win the raffle. Too bad Cody wasn't at the event (he was at his Dad's). He would've loved it--there was lots of free food. ^^;; Ryan and Mom spent most of the time selling tickets for a different raffle, but unlike me, they were confined to their chairs.
Anyway, it was interesting looking at all the items up for auction. There was some beautiful art--I'd love to donate some art of my own next year for them to sell. See how much AnimalSave could get for my realistic wolf sketches. XP
I'd say the auction got AnimalSave at least about $10,000, if not more. I know there was this awesome diamond broach from 1890 that someone donated, and it went for at least $2,000 by itself.
Well, a little of my faith in humanity has been restored. If only everyone cared this much about animals, the world would be a much happier place.
