Okay, it's a bit early as I still have not-quite-a-month-and-a-half, but I'm having trouble figuring out what I want to write this year for NaNoWriMo!

I had this grand, rather bizarre plot idea that I came up with quite a while back, but then, upon thinking it over, it's really too depressing to write for NaNoWriMo. I want some adventure and fun, not something that's going to make me bawl every time I write it! Depressing to a degree is kind of inevitable in my stories, but this is just too much.

So, what I would like, is little snippets of inspiration from you guys! I am not trying to just take anyone else's plot, just trying to get my brain working. Oftentimes it just takes reading or looking at one specific thing for something to spark and start building, regardless of whether the two things are related or not.

So, feel free to dump your plot bunnies you will never write, intriguing mental images that lead nowhere, pictures that you find interesting, songs that are inspiring, concepts in science/the world/psychology/whatever that could lead somewhere, and so on! Feel free to spam stuff if you want~ I'm not picky, just things that intrigue you basically! Even just "I like to see this element/plot type/character type/situation" is helpful!

Just for your reference, here's the type of stories I like to write, roughly. If what you post has absolutely nothing to do with this stuff, pleeease don't worry about it, absolutely anything helps!

Things I tend to write about:
- Involves animals in some way (obviously)
- Surrealistic and psychological, often rather metaphysical
- Prefer young-ish (my age and younger) main characters, probably because they have less to tie them down in stories.

Go go go! :D

I always wanted to try NaNoWriMo, but I suck at actually writing. :( If I ever were to write a story I wanted to go along with, it'd probably be a comic!

It's worth a try if you want to attempt it. I really enjoy it every year! The goal of NaNoWriMo is just to write and have fun--it's not to write anything good necessarily, and even for slow writers the pace really isn't too bad. Let me know if you have any questions about it or you're thinking about trying it, it's wonderful! The forums are still up from last year if you want to go check them out and see what you think. The forums are a lot of fun and really encouraging and supportive.

You could always adapt it some way to a comic if you wanted, too--maybe a page a day, two pages a day, something like that?

I may try doing NaNoWriMo this year. I haven't in the past (mostly because I forget about it), but I have a novel idea that I've been planning to work on anyway. Might as well write in November if time permits.

I tend to gravitate towards dark/depressing stories or epic fantasy, so I'm not sure how much help I would be...

I did recently buy this poster.

Other than that, have you had any intriguing dreams lately? I could write several stories based on my dreams in the past week, alone. (Though they would all be highly disturbing reads.)

You really should, especially if you have a story you already want to work on! It's a great opportunity to get words down instead of just waffling about it forever, and the environment/site/fellow writers all make it a very fun and supportive event to take part in. I highly recommend it--this'll be my fourth year doing it! If you have any local write-ins, those are truly great as well and help keep you on track. :D Time permitting is not an excuse for NaNoWrimo--it's the whole point! To make the time work out, haha.

Oh, I write dark/depressing stuff too generally/pretty much always, I just want it to have at least some adventurous aspects. The plot I had in mind is literally like...absolutely abysmal depressing (about factory farms, humanity being destroyed, basically pure despair).

Hmm, I can't see the poster--it's a very small image. XD

I did base one of my NaNoNovels off a dream I had, actually! I never got to the point where the dream scenes actually came in, but...um...I still had fun! Lately unfortunately my dreams are such nonsense it's hard to get much out of them, haha.

Thank you for the comment! :D

My ex-roommate participates in it every year, but she graduated last year. But what would you talk about with the fellow writers? Do you post your word count or excerpts from your story or what?

I cannot see myself making the NaNoWriMo goal, even if I had the time for it. The main purpose would be to get my ideas down on paper since I've been putting it off for so long.

Did my img tag not work? It's at least 300-400 pixels tall...

All kinds of things! Share your plots, babble about your characters, post if you get stuck or have questions (of either the obvious or completely obscure kind), answer questions about your novel, word war with people, the sky is the limit! The forums are still up from last year if you want to check the forums out and see what the forums are like. They're really quite fun to read through. In fact, if there's one thing that would get me off track during NaNoWriMo it's how awesome the forums are. Thankfully everyone can see your word count and you can see theirs, so that helps keep you motivated!

Aww, don't say that until you try! As I was telling [livejournal.com profile] hi_mit_su, the daily wordcount usually takes me about a half-hour, forty minutes. Rarely an hour or an hour and a half if I'm REALLY uninspired that day. And I consider myself a slow writer, I'm even slow at writing entries and comments and they're much less cerebral than stories. XD It's worth trying for, and if you don't make it to the 50K goal, that's all right. :)

No, it didn't! I'm getting only a little tiny thing about maybe 20-25 pixels-ish?

(Sorry for the edit, had to fix the username, fffhaha.)

Oh, and got the poster working! I had to right click and say to open it in another tab, then it showed up there. That is very cool and indeed quite inspiring/thought-provoking! Love it. :D

Awww, a lot of people think that, but it really is a great, supportive, fun event and the pace isn't nearly as bad as people think it is! It usually takes me between a half-hour and an hour to write my words for the day, maybe an hour and a half on a veryyy sluggish writing day. And I consider myself a slow writer, so...! (Also, I've finished it all three years I've done it, so I can say it's not bad at all!) Don't let it get you discouraged, give it a try if you're interested. :D The worst that happens is you don't finish, and then, well, there's always next year! It's not like you get punished. XD

Oooh, interesting, thanks! I'll think about those and see what comes up! :D

I don't usually post NaNo stories, but I maybe would if there was actually interest in reading them, hahaha. XD

I really want to do NaNoWriMo (have so many ideas!), but I have a feeling that I'll be trying to cram WoW time in before the release of Cataclysm. I still need a dragon mount and my shiny wolfie pet. Here, see the shiny? http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/spectralsaberworg.html

You should have a great time with it! Can't wait to see what you can come up with this year! :3

LAAAAATE to the party, BUT!!

This movie, that I've liked for awhile, that every time I watch it I think to myself "Gee, Kristin would LOVE this movie!" but I always forget to rec it to you. It encompasses everything that you love, pretty much:

1) it's foreign (swedish, I think)
2) it's about adolescent kids
3) it's got gay/genderbending themes
4) It's deeply psychological
5) It's dark and twisted and moody and surreal and painful and violent at times
6) Emphasis on paranormal

DOESN'T involve animals, but oh well. If you haven't watched it already check out "Let the Right One In". It's a fantastic movie that I think you would probably LOVE, and you will probably get a LOT out of it.

That, and maybe it will trigger something. :)

Awesome, I'm definitely going to check it out! Sounds totally up my alley! I'll see if I can download it and if not I'll go try to rent it. :D Thanks KK! ♥
