Haven't been up to much the last few days--went to the intake center twice and worked with the birds, and went to the street fair in Nevada City, other than that I've just been hanging around. I actually slept most of today so now I'm quite awake. Oh well--at the moment it doesn't really matter whether I sleep in the day or the night so I guess it's better to just sleep through the hot parts of the day anyway~ It's nice taking the dogs for walks at night because it's cooler out. :)

Now I'm just reading up on my personality type, INFP. I am struck by just how accurate writings on this personality type are for me--most of them are almost eerily accurate! I feel like knowing my personality type helps me understand myself better and be able to convey why I am the way I am to others. :D

This whole page right here is amazingly correct (and quite short): http://typelogic.com/infp.html

This page as well, though for me I would say I'm not so much focused on making the world better for just humanity (which is a species I passionately dislike, though I don't believe individual people deserve to suffer and like many individuals) but for all living things: http://www.personalitypage.com/INFP.html

Wikipedia says:

"According to Myers-Briggs, INFPs focus much of their energy on an inner world dominated by intense feeling and deeply held ethics. They seek an external life that is in keeping with these values. Loyal to the people and causes important to them, INFPs can quickly spot opportunities to implement their ideals. They are curious to understand those around them, and so are accepting and flexible except when their values are threatened."

"The polite, reserved exterior of INFPs can at first make them difficult to get to know. They enjoy conversation, however, taking particular delight in the unusual. When INFPs are in a sociable mood, their humor and charm shine through. Disposed to like people and to avoid conflict, INFPs tend to make pleasant company.

Devoted to those in their inner circle, INFPs guard the emotional well-being of others, consoling those in distress. Guided by their desire for harmony, INFPs prefer to be flexible unless their ethics are violated. Then, they become passionate advocates for their beliefs. They are often able to sway the opinions of others through tact, diplomacy, and an ability to see varying sides of an issue.

INFPs develop these insights through reflection, and they require substantial time alone to ponder and process new information. While they can be quite patient with complex material, they are generally bored by routine. Though not always organized, INFPs are meticulous about things they value. Perfectionists, they may have trouble completing a task because it cannot meet their high standards. They may even go back to a completed project after the deadline so they can improve it.

INFPs are creative types and often have a gift for language. As introverts, they may prefer to express themselves through writing. Their dominant Feeling drives their desire to communicate, while their auxiliary intuition supplies the imagination. Having a talent for symbolism, they enjoy metaphors and similes. They continually seek new ideas and adapt well to change. They prefer working in an environment that values these gifts and allows them to make a positive difference in the world, according to their personal beliefs."

Anyway, it's just interesting seeing how well these describe me and it makes me feel like I can put myself into a category that helps me explain who I am and why I think and behave the way I do. So much of me can be somewhat vague and difficult to explain so I'm thankful that these do a good job of explaining for me.

It's true, I seem to live in a state where only half of my mind is in the real world, while the other half is off exploring some realm of imagination, philosophy, and storytelling--oftentimes all three at the same time. This makes me rather out of touch sometimes. It's hard for me to be an adult in some ways, I think, because it requires more logic than I possess, and keeping track of things I find uninteresting or unimportant. In some ways I have a lot of faith in my ability to make things work because if I really want something, I make it happen, but in other ways I worry about my ability to fit into this very materialistic, money-minded, chaotic society. I think I'll make things work eventually but it may take me a while of trial and error...meaning screwing up with rather "durrr" types of things like money and parking tickets and so on. Unfortunately this gets me a lot of flack with my parents, who are both rather aggressive, energetic, grounded, somewhat materialistic individuals. Not that I'm dissing my parents, I love them and get along with them the majority of the time, but we have very different values and ways of interacting.

I don't know, I can be really oblivious and make dumb mistakes, but just don't forget that I have a lot going on under my surface.

New swan and deer Pokémon are adorable and wonderful! I love them. :D

I'm an INFJ! I love reading about my type too.

but just don't forget that I have a lot going on under my surface.

I try to always remember that for everyone. :) Which is prob a very INFJ thing to do...

Awesome, we have lots in common then. :D (Not that I didn't already know that, but um. XD) I think one of my best friends is INFJ, too.

Yes, I try to remember that as well. ♥

I see personality types as more of a novelty than a serious application (though I acknowlegde the research behind them) because it's not a good idea to put people into boxes, but it's interesting when they get (some) things right. It was nice reading about INFP! I'm apparently an INTJ. I'm not sure if all of it fits (I'm certainly not pursuing a career in the sciences/law/engineering) but I laughed at this line which echoes some recent thoughts I've had perfectly: they tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation.

I really empathise with you on It's true, I seem to live in a state where only half of my mind is in the real world, while the other half is off exploring some realm of imagination, philosophy, and storytelling though. A lot of the time I don't want to bring around all of myself to focus on the real world.

I'm so excited for the new Pokemon games! :D :D :D

Well, yes, me as well. They're much more valid than astrology (which I also like because, although it's BS and utterly unscientific, I appreciate categorization because it helps me explain traits and whatnot much more easily), but it is still just another way to group people. For me, though. I can be so vague that it really helps to be able to explain what I'm like in a way that makes sense to others. If I try to explain it on my own I just go on forever and get confused about what traits I do and don't have because my personality seems to contain a lot of contradictions.

Oh, interesting that you're INTJ! I'll have to read about that type a bit. And haha, I can feel you there--I greatly dislike small talk and will go to great lengths to avoid it. There has to be a topic for me to feel comfortable for whatever reason, and talking to people I don't know well is uncomfortable to me because I don't know if we have anything in common or if I'm going to accidentally offend/upset them. I'm quite gregarious and even loud when around good friends or in specific places (such as anime conventions, veterinary offices, and so on--I know I have something in common with the people there), but otherwise I'm rather quiet and don't interact much.

I'm glad you can understand that as well! To be honest I perfectly like my daydream-y world and mind, but it can be problematic when dealing with people who expect me to be more grounded.

Me too! I love the Pokémon that have been released so far and the games look like they're going to be awesome. :D

I usually come out half introverted and half extroverted on those things. I can't remember what I usually get though.

I had a weird dream last night that you gave me a chicken called Egg, and I had to carrying it for over a mile to the vet, and then back again. Though when holding it, it felt very much like my big cat Toby. Strange!

I used to be that way but for some reason I've become more introverted with time~ I'm still not 100% introverted, though. You should take the test again and see what you get! It's nice to know your type. :)

Hahaha, I love it! That is a silly dream. I have weird dreams about online friends, too! They're quite entertaining.

What a complete coincidence! I was spending inordinate amounts of time reading threads on typology forums today, heh... (and taking inane tests)

The personalitypage.com website has some of the best writeups on the types IMO; I really find myself going "that's how I can explain myself" when I read the ones for my type—which, as you might already know, is and has always been INTP...

I find your type to be really easy to empathise with, though. I'm certainly not nearly as considerate or dedicated to causes, but in other areas I sometimes feel a bit like an INFP, especially when it comes to creative pursuits, and a total lack of practicality. x_x
Not just empathy, I think INFPs are worthy of a lot of respect too—I really admire the way you guys see things in the larger scale of things and manage to stick to it! And putting those ideals before of mundane, everyday things is totally cool with me (it's reassuring to find people like that, actually) I'm glad I got to know real people like yourself while still relatively young, before getting too jaded with people.

Dammit when am I going to get around to making a post on this sort of thing. Too many things to say...

Hah, nice timing then! Typology is really an interesting topic to read about.

Yes, another person who is close to my type but not quite! I do quite like their write-ups, too, they're accurate and well-written. I'm reading a few articles on INTPs and they do sound like you!

Yes, I can see that you would share some traits with INFP! I'm glad you find it admirable that we have a cause and stick to it. Some people have trouble understanding that type of viewpoint so it's good to know someone appreciates it. :D Similarly, I can admire the more analytical viewpoint of an INTP. I am analytical in some ways (when examining birds, and perhaps sometimes when watching anime) but for the most part my life could use more objectivity and more ability to notice small details. Perhaps I would be better at the quantitative sciences (Chemistry, Physics, etc.) if I had a better mind for small details, heh.

You definitely should! I know I'd read it. :D It took me quite a while to get around to this post, though, and I have a number of others I've been meaning to make for practically forever, so I understand the feeling.

(By the way, I got the postcard a while back! Thank you so much, it made me smile! I was so amused that you went TL;DR even on a postcard, hahaha, we really are the queens of teal deer! :D I put it in my cel binder for safekeeping.)
