Apr. 28th, 2010 10:59 amLost one of the porcelain old english game bantam chicks to failure to thrive. It was runty and thin, and so weak last night it was barely standing up. I put it in the duckling's enclosure for the night so it could snuggle up with the heating pad and not have to deal with the other chicks, as I was fairly sure it was on its way out. I tried giving it some protein rich mix through a syringe to see if that would help, but it seems it was too late for that to help it. It's unfortunate, but not that upsetting, really--it's normal to lose around 10% of your chicks no matter what you do and how well you treat them, and this one just wasn't able to make it for whatever reason. The other eighteen are doing great.
The duckling and I have been spending lots of time together. He likes nesting in my hair and sitting on the keyboard while I type. XD He's really cute and friendly!
Hooch hurt his eye and we were worried it was something serious, but it turns out it's an abscess behind his eye that's making his eye hurt. Thankfully, all he needs is some antibiotics and pain medicine sometimes and he should be better soon. :)
Not much else going on really--just school, internet, and duckling/chickies. I'm really looking forward to school getting out, as school always gets slightly boring to me around this time of the semester. Only two weeks and two days (including today) to go!
