PPBA Stockton Show
Jan. 31st, 2010 02:47 pmThe chicken show was fantastic, and so much fun! Thousands of gorgeous and interesting birds, ahhh! *A* I spent so many hours just walking up and down the rows of cages looking at all the birds. So amazing! And it was great getting to talk chickens with people who understand the love of poutry. There were so many people who understood how chickens begin taking over your life, hahaha. I made some new friends, met up with the mother and son who sold me my seramas and spent quite a bit of time talking to them, and had some nice conversations with people from BackYard Chickens. ♥ I'll post the pictures I took later once I upload them.
The sales room was particularly enticing. There were several hundred birds in there, including fancy ducks, swans, geese, peafowl, different varieties of pigeons and doves, and of course tons of chickens. My limit of how many chickens to buy...er...didn't go so well. XD But that's okay, two are going to new homes, and I'm very happy with my purchases. I ended up bringing home:
- 1 silver spangled hamburg
- 1 splash old english game bantam
- 1 red brown old english game bantam
- 2 blue red old english game bantam (one might go to Bev)
- 1 porcelain d'uccle
- 1 splash silkie (for Bev)
- 2 bantam silver phoenixes
They're really gorgeous! I'll post pictures of them once I take some. :D I also bought a really nice chicken pen (about 6' long x 4' wide x 5' tall) for only $30. I'm planning on expanding my chicken coop soon so there will be plenty of room for everyone. My coop is actually below capacity so it's fine anyway, but I want everyone to have more room than necessary.
Anyway, yeah, I loved the show. It was a great time! Look forward to pictures! ♥

Date: 2010-02-01 04:02 am (UTC)So do they have chicken clubs and organizations?
would you enter into the state fair with stuff?
I myself am in a beekeepers club, we used to do the state fair, I may enter again this summer, just depends. but our club is so fun talking with others about bees and what we do and how we feed them or treat them or try to be chemical free but use natural methods of keeping the poor creatures alive...

I haven't gotten involved in showing but I do know a bit about it, and I like looking at all the birds. I mostly just collect my birds for pet purposes and because they're gorgeous. ♥ I do absolutely love talking to chicken people about chickens, though--that's why I've gotten really into the site BackYardChickens.com. The forums are so fun and friendly!
Beekeeping sounds fun! Especially with a club and entering the state fair and all. :D

Date: 2010-02-04 02:51 am (UTC)The state fair is awesome. we have displays of so many different kinds of honey, honey products, wax, and photos of bees.
talking to bee people? we never shut up!! we get calls to come get bees from someones house or yard and wind up talking for more time than it takes to collect the bees!
I'm so glad you're having a great time and can swap chickenstories!!!
some of our beekeepers are into all kinds of critters. chickens ducks swans, etc!
