The place where I drove to get the chickens was WAYYYYYY out in the middle of nowhere. For locals, it was about ten miles farther out in the wilderness than North San Juan. Intense! But it was worth it. The guy giving away the chickens was really nice and had lots and lots of animals. Three pugs, one pug mix, three king charles spaniels, some toy poodles, two wolf mixes, twenty-some rabbits, three very expensive/rare geese ($280 a pair, on average), and, of course, the forty or so chickens! Perhaps others in the house, too--no way for me to know. He is keeping some of the animals, but many are going to new homes.

I ended up taking one black silkie, and two Manx Rumpie/Plymouth Barred Rock crosses. Here I was expecting all these crosses to look the same and not so impressive, but quite on the contrary! There was a huge variety between the birds even though they were the same cross, and quite a few of them were very impressive. I took one rumpless (chicken lingo for tailless) little one that is white and looks like someone sketched on the edges of its feathers, and one tail-possessing slightly larger beautiful gray hen. I'll take pictures of them soon, promise! I don't know what has taken me so long when it comes to taking poultry pictures. .___.; I'm really enthusiastic about my new flock members--they're so lovely! I need to think of names for them.

While I was there, I called Janey to see if she wanted me to pick her up some chickens as well, and she ended up wanting two silkies and one of the mixes. Her three are currently hanging out in the coop with my chickens--they go to their permanent home tomorrow.

Makayla and I also got to hang out for part of the day today. We didn't get to working on the AMV because we were both feeling rather unproductive, but we did have a good time going different places and watching hilarious YouTube videos.

When I got home after dropping off Makayla back at her house, I behaved exactly like the massive poultry geek and I am and went to reread all of FeatherSite's chicken breed articles. I've read them before, but they've been updated and of course I like to review the information every now and then. I could (and frequently do) spend hours on that site looking up information about different breeds of poultry. *___* It's fascinating, guys! You should all go on the site, too, and poke around the different chicken breeds just for the heck of it. So many beautiful, strange, and interesting birds! Not that any of you will, but...points for trying? 8D

Tomorrow I go to the Draft Horse Classic with mom, and Sunday it's off to Davis to visit my grandma and pick up the new guinea pig.
