Firefox keeps restarting without saving my tabs. D: Not always, just occasionally, but enough to be really irritating. I hoard tabs, so when they all disappear at once, I just know it means I'll miss out on a bunch of things I planned to do/read/look through/save/whatever. On the other hand, at least it prevents me from getting too obsessive about my tab hoarding...? (It seriously gets into something like two hundred plus tabs that I'll save for as long as I can.)
On a much more interesting note, I got to hold a bird of prey for the first time yesterday! Kari and I worked the afternoon shift yesterday and she had Oliver the Western Screech Owl with her (he is one of our educational birds--in other words, a bird that cannot be released and is kept under a special permit for use in classes and presentations), so she showed me using him how to handle raptors. Granted, he's only 5-6" tall and more adorable than he is imposing, but still! It was fun! He sat cooperatively on my glove and looked around and was quite well behaved. I'll put some pictures of him a little later in the entry.
Yesterday at the center was pretty quiet. Kari is the medical expert of the group, aside from the vets we work with, so at the beginning of the shift she was teaching a few of the new volunteers and me about fractures, using a stellar's jay that was euthanized that morning for a severe leg break and a wing break, and a live nestling scrub jay with a broken toe. Quite interesting!
Then we mostly talked and did little things around the center while waiting for calls. We didn't get any aside from the occasional one from other volunteers.
Finally, just as we were closing up, we got a pigeon from the Yuba City area. Poor guy was in awful shape from what appeared to be a dog bite, so we spent about a half-hour stabilizing him. It's a good thing Kari was there because she knew exactly what to do about his very serious and deep puncture wounds, and I acted as assistant and helped examine and weigh him, get supplies for Kari, and calculate and prepare all the dosages he needed. We gave him antibiotics, pain medicine, lactated ringer solution to remedy his dehydration, and antibiotic salve over all the wounds after flushing them and disinfecting them. I hope he made it. I'll have to ask her next time I see her.
Today was an incredibly blah day. It wasn't that hot outside, but I think I turned the air conditioner on too late because it was 85 degrees in the house for most of the day. :/ Yuck. And I hadn't slept too well the night before for some reason, so I lazed around the whole day watching various TV shows and playing Mystery Dungeon. It was amusing sitting on the couch with all three dogs and occasionally one cat as well, haha.
Leaving for Tahoe again tomorrow, and I may or may not be online during Tahoe. More likely will be, seeing as I'm not going up with any friends (...RONERY), but who knows--I may just manage to occupy myself in such a way that doesn't involve the internet.
ANYWAY, HAVE SOME ARBITRARY PICTURES! The corgi pictures really aren't all that great--they're not particularly flattering or well-done, as I mostly just snapped them at random and I'm too lazy to crop them or fix the eye reflections from the flash. They do, however, have the corgis making lots of doofy faces and lying in weird positions. Only two pictures of Hana this time, seeing as she went to bed with Mom and I didn't want to bother her just to take pictures of her.
I would have done my Japan pictures, but there are so many and I still have to sort through them and whatnot. Uploading them is going to take so long!

This is Oliver the Western Screech Owl! These aren't good pictures of him at all, but he's the cutest little owl ever. If you see him in person, you can't help but melt a little. Our group has had him for about six years. One of his wings was broken beyond repair, hence why we have him as an education bird.

Chester the Great Horned Owl! You can see he only has one eye, although I believe he was kept because of inability to fly rather than the eye issue... Ah, I can't entirely remember. Anyway, he's very handsome. :D

Tecumseh the Red-Tailed Hawk! So very pretty. Can you believe someone shot this bird multiple times? :(
We also have a Peregrine Falcon named Gaia, a White-Tailed Kite named Billy, and I believe we have an American Kestrel in training to be an educational bird, but I haven't gotten pictures of those three yet. I will next time I see them! Gaia was put away too early at the last event I saw her at, I haven't seen Billy in a while because Jay, his handler, hasn't been at most of the events lately, and the Kestrel is a new acquisition.

This is arbitrary, but it's me in my Boota costume with Imaishi (director of TTGL) and Nishigori (character designer). Now I do believe I have met the entire Gurren Lagann cast, as well as visited GAINAX, as well as met Shokotan and seen her in concert. My life is sometimes so incredibly awesome.
DOGS. MAKING WEIRD FACES AND WHATNOT. My dogs are so cute they just about kill me with their cute. ;3; I love and am obsessed with all three of them, haha.
Hooch:

!!! (LOL)

???

I don't even know. XD
Honey:

Both corgis like to stretch out like this, haha. Sometimes they do it parallel to one another and then it looks really cute and hilarious. I'll have to get a picture of that next time they do it.
Honey has really expressive eyes and likes to use them to look paranoid and scared for silly reasons or no reason at all. When she smiles and has her eyes in paranoid fashion, she looks downright insane. I have yet to capture the insane expression so far, but one of these days...!

"I AM TERRIFIED. EXCEPT NOT!"

"HOOCH IS PLOTTING SOMETHING."
Oh, and have some more normal pictures of her while we're at it, seeing as she was evading the camera this evening and therefore I don't have as many silly pictures of her:

And a couple of Hana, doing her signature weird sleeping positions:

Aw, I wanted to draw this evening but it's quite late... It's probably better if I don't. I need to draw more so badly! I'm so out of practice and it seems like every time I want to draw it's past 2 AM. :/ Maybe while I'm up in Tahoe I'll have time!
I also was planning on watching Macross Plus today, but didn't get to that either. Today was just a day of procrastination and fail, heh.

Date: 2009-08-01 08:50 pm (UTC)Awesome pictures~ Those really are some magnificent birds. And your dogs are adorable. ♥ Honey's eyes make me laugh because my aunt's Mini Pinscher, who has been staying with us for the last few days, has eyes ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE THAT. XDD At first I thought it was just because of how nervous and scared he was from being in a new place, but no. Those are just his eyes.

Gurren Lagann staff is made of awesome! I hope you get to meet GAINAX someday, as they're quite friendly and fun to be around.

Date: 2009-08-02 09:18 am (UTC)I know, isn't he just so handsome? He still has bullets lodged in him and always will, but at least he has a fairly happy life with my group.

Date: 2009-08-02 09:22 am (UTC)Thanks! Yes, the birds are amazing. And I looove my doggies. ♥
Awww, Minpins are so cute and funny! The home Hooch came from had two of them and they were so adorable. X3 Honey doesn't make her paranoid face all the time, but she looks totally hilarious when she does because the reasons for doing it generally aren't related to how the expression looks. She also makes this really goofy howl when she wants attention, ahaha.
