Feb. 11th, 2009 10:16 pmI have been so bad about updating lately! It seems every time I want to post, I am either exhausted, busy, STRANDED SOMEWHERE (more on that later), or otherwise unable to update.
Uh, time for some bullet-format updates!
* Went to see Slumdog Millionaire again with Makayla/
scorpio_alice. It holds up to a second viewing really well, and I just love it so much! It's definitely my favorite movie since Pan's Labyrinth. ♥ I...actually want to go see it again, but I will probably refrain and just wait to see it again until the DVD comes out. We'll see. XD
* Before that, Makayla and I went to Sword of the Stranger down in Roseville. It was definitely a fun, enjoyable movie. Nothing incredibly deep or original, but it had a number of well-done action scenes and I had a great time watching it! There were a lot of subtle aspects about the movie that I enjoyed. The only thing was that it was dubbed (I know, I should have realized this before), which was strange for me even though the dub was, all things considered, not too bad. It still was jarring considering the settings. Now I must see it again in Japanese (Mamoru Miyano and Maaya Sakamoto? COUNT ME IN). Afterwards Makayla and I had a discussion about how many anime movies leave us feeling a bit dissatisfied because we're so used to the series format and movies seem to be over so quickly by comparison and they oftentimes don't allow enough character development. Obviously there are quite a few exceptions, but just as a whole.
* I slept over at
archaneah's the other night and it snowed while I was there! So I had the leave my car there while I was at Chemistry and go back to get it later when some of the snow melted. The view from her window in the morning was incredibly beautiful. ♥
* Today was made of crazy. .___. I only got about three hours of sleep and woke up with a persistent neck/shoulder ache that is still with me, and it snowed more so I was hoping for a snow day but didn't get it, and Chemistry was just...well, Chemistry. Enough said. THEN the day got crazier, though. Due to the snow, I didn't drive to school today and thus mom needed to pick me up, but I forgot my cell phone so I stood outside in the cold while it snowed for about forty minutes because she didn't know when I got out of class. Finally my fingers and toes went numb, so I went in the computer lab (which had been previously occupied by a class) for a while and waited for her.
She picked me up in my car and we went to get some food at Briarpatch because I hadn't eaten all day, and then we went to an appointment in Grass Valley. It was snowing fairly hard at this point so we almost didn't go to the appointment but we unwisely decided to anyway, and when we came out there was quite a pile up of snow. Well, I don't have 4WD and everyone driving by without it was slipping all around, so we just barely managed to move my car away from where it could be hit by out of countrol drivers. It just kept snowing and snowing and snowing, so (to cut a long story short) we called one of mom's friends with 4WD to come pick us up. She agreed to meet us at the movie theater about a fifteen minute walk away, but I had on my usual wimpy cloth shoes and Hana didn't have a leash, so I stayed with Hana while mom walked to the movie theater to meet her friend. It was cold in the car, so I put Hana on my lap and covered her with a towel and we kept each other warm for about forty-minutes while it just kept snowing.
Well, mom walked back up and told me her friend had arrived but refused to drive the like three minutes up the road to pick Hana and I up, so we had to walk to the movie theater with poor Hana not on a leash (and she's afraid of cars going by so she kept trying to hide on the walk there, awww) and we even had to carry Hana part of the way because she runs off erratically when she's afraid and we didn't want her getting run over. We got there in about ten or fifteen minutes (still snowing, by the way), and HER FRIEND DESERTED US THERE IN THE SNOW because she got impatient with us walking there, and when mom called her she refused to answer her phone. This friend has done some other pretty "D:" worthy things in the past, so this is officially the end of their friendship. And my mom has done SO many nice things for her, including almost singlehandedly delivering her baby and giving her rides to places over an hour away and watching her horse for free while she was on vacation and all kinds of other things. And she couldn't even drive the three minutes to come get us or wait like ten or fifteen minutes for us to walk with Hana when it was snowing hard. We were both pretty pissed off about it. Hana and I were sopping wet at this point and freezing cold, so we walked back to the car and sat in there for a while waiting for the roads to get a little more manageable because all the cars driving on the road eventually turned the snow into slush and water.
We did eventually drive home on our own, but...gah. It was awful. :( This whole thing was about three hours of being stranded in the snow.
* BUT I HAVE A FIVE DAY WEEKEND NOW SO ALL IS WELL IN THE WORLD. ♥
* ALSO, DENNOU COIL MARATHON AT MY HOUSE ON SUNDAY. YEAHHHH! Makayla and I are totally going to make an amazing Dennou Coil AMV to Imogen Heap's "Headlock" and that's partly what the marathon is for. We're thinking deadline by Fanime's AMV contest deadline if we can get it together and it works out well. :D
* Need to go to Shaymin event soon!
* I will be doing a chicken photo post soon! I know this sounds weird, but my chickens are super pretty and adorable and I think you'll all love them even if you're skeptical about chickens. ♥
* I have a huge list of mostly fun/artsy things that I will be doing this weekend. And some not-so-fun things, but more fun things than not-fun things so it should be a nice weekend. I need to catch up on my sleep first, though.

Date: 2009-02-12 09:26 am (UTC)Ooh, I look forward to seeing your AMV when you make it. How many Dennou Coil marathons have you had? Like 3 by now? XD
Yay, I also look forward to seeing pictures of the chickens! <3 Ta.

Date: 2009-02-12 12:59 pm (UTC)I was thinking of going to the theater to see that again but didn't feel like going alone (I don't have any RL friends who like anime) so I guess I will have to wait for the DVD to come out. It wasn't deep at all but it was fun and I liked the relationship between the boy and samurai oh and the dog too. The villains could have been developed better but well it was only a 2 hour movie.
Oh and a Dennou Coil AMV, I wholly approve. I can't wait to see it. :)
Also your mom's friend....I don't like to judge people I don't know but that is just awful. If that is how she treats her friends, I wonder how she treats everyone else.

Date: 2009-02-13 06:54 am (UTC)And she wasn't being flaky, so was being a jerk. D: She was really rude to my mom when she told me that Hana and I were up the street, too.
Yes, it was cute! Poor Hana was shivering a little before I snuggled with her, although she was better off than I was because she has a nice medium-length coat of fur. XD

Date: 2009-02-13 06:57 am (UTC)I hope it works out! I haven't made an AMV in about three or four years now but I think it'll be a lot of fun to bust out the editing software and get working on it. Especially because I have someone to work on it with. :D And this is only our second Dennou Coil marathon, actually, though probably not our last. We marathon Gurren Lagann faithfully every few months, haha.
Yay! I'll probably post them tonight. :D

Date: 2009-02-13 07:01 am (UTC)Hooray! I can't wait to get working on it! I'd better go find HQ raws of the whole series soon so I can start it. Dennou Coil is really lacking in the AMV department so far! If you listen to the song I'm sure you'll see why we chose it. ;)
It really was awful of her. I'm pretty forgiving but this was just ridiculous... She was a total jerk to my mom when my mom told her I was a little up the street, too. :/

Date: 2009-02-13 07:03 am (UTC)I agree. I'm a forgiving person but there really was no excuse for how she behaved.
Yay! I'm looking forward to making it. :D
