I got back from Slumdog Millionaire about a half hour ago and...IT WAS FANTASTIC. I am Ms. Nitpicky when it comes to movies, and I absolutely loved it! It was a great story idea, an extremely well made movie, and just...wonderful. So much wonderful. ♥ I can't wait to see it again. It was bittersweet and quite intense/sad/depressing in parts like most amazing movies (at least in my opinion--I'm not really into movies that are nothing but sunshine and rainbows), but as a result of the end (especially the ending credits) I can't stop smiling. I loved it and I recommend it to all of you.

Now to go hunt down the soundtrack! *0*

SOUNDTRACK WAS FUCKING RAD. ENDING CREDITS WERE THE HAPPIEST THINGS EVER.

I got to see it last night. I have a friend that works at the movie theaters and I got to go to the employee showing!

OMG. I LOVED IT SO FUCKING HAAAAARD. It was so beautiful/wonderful/awesome/amazing/good.

hjbaegljhbflhSADGJNSAD;K!!~

(BTW, did you see Benjamin Button yet?)

LOVE THIS MOVIE. ♥

(No, I haven't! I've been trying to make it to it but it keeps playing at the wrong times. XD)

I've been wanting to see this after I heard about it in the States! It's rare that they make a movie about that part of Indian society and the dude who composed the music is really very good; I normally don't watch any movies at all (too expensive, and I'm far too lazy :p unless it's with some friends, who are all not around anyway) ... but I think I might make an exception to go watch this one! Maybe I might be able to convince my mum to go with me, that's normally impossible but considering the subject matter... :o

You definitely should! It's a fantastic movie and I think you would love it. It really is worth a trip to the movie theaters (and this is coming from someone who...hasn't been to the movie theaters since Pan's Labyrinth, if I'm remembering correctly? I'm hard to please, heh.) And the music is fantastic--I'm downloading the soundtrack right now!

Definitely try to go out and see it, and bring your mom if you can!

OH MAN. You need to see Benjamin Button! They're both up for Best Picture, and I don't think that I could decide between them!! They're both so good in such different ways!!

(And the ending credits.. ohhhhh!!)

I LOVED BOTH OF THOSE MOVIES!! SDM was SO fucking GOOD. BB Is SO fucking GOOD too. You need to coordinate it so that you can see it. I think you'll like it. It's like a Forest Gump/Big Fish crossover. It's pretty cool!

I WILL, I WILL! I've been planning on seeing it for quite some time actually but it's just one of those annoying things where it repeatedly doesn't work out. D: Maybe I'll go Sunday or something, hmmm... Wanna go together, maybe?

Haha, at least (assuming I love Benjamin Button too, though from what I've heard I'd be surprised if I don't) we can be happy if either win!

Ah, I love Forrest Gump and Big Fish. ♥

Want to go Sunday morning or something? Then we can hang out at Mekka afterwards and do some chem?

Sounds like fun to me! I'm really liking this O-Chem unit so far.

That sounds great! Though it's only playing at 2:30 PM so I don't know about the morning. But we could go and hang out and do Chem after that, if you're not busy!

Yeah, the O-Chem is nice and simple and straightforward. I need to get caught up--I got a bit behind because I was so sick. OH! And I need my answer manual, because I'm a wimp without it. XD

OKAY. Do you need it tomorrow or can I give it to you sunday when we hang out??

How about we hang out at mekka pre-movie. We can get tea and breakfast and hang out a couple of hours doing work casually and talking and having a gay old time, then we can see the movie and go our respective ways?

Yeah?

You can give it to me Sunday! I somehow doubt I'm going to use it before then anyway, as I'm easily distracted... D:

That sounds just fine to me! What time are you thinking? :D

I will! I looked it up a bit more and I'm really interested now.

Except first it has to actually come here :(

Yeah, I looked it up a bit and I'm keen to go, I'll definitely check it out when it actually comes here :D I don't know when's the last time I watched a movie man... Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo? It must be at least 5 years since I last watched a non-anime movie in the theatres I suspect :|

Great! I hope it comes there fairly soon. :D

It's really easy not to go to movies. The tickets here are so expensive, and I'm not interested in probably 90% of what's playing to begin with. I wish we had more anime play here, though--you generally have to drive to San Francisco to get to the closest anime screenings, though occasionally there are things in Sacramento and whatnot... Not all that often, though.

10 or 11 am?

Then we can hang a couple of hours and see the movie. Are you at your dad's or mom's sunday morning? I will come and pick you up of course.

Is it going to play there? Like, are there concrete plans and release dates and the like?

Heh, we're lucky because when anime comes to Singapore it means the whole of Singapore (and generally we get significantly more shows than the immediate region of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, even Australia). In recent years one of the film companies, Cathay, has been bringing over lots of anime (oh wait, I think the last movie I watched was Paprika, not TokiKake - but that was in a special limited-release theater run) One of the upsides to living in a small city-state I suppose.

...But I'm still not interested in 90% of what's playing with indeed, heh. I'd rather live in the countryside and make the very occasional trip to watch stuff, really... (of course, I don't know nuthin' about actually living away from everything)

Hmmm, let's do 11 AM just because I still tend to stay up somewhat late. :/ I'll be at my dad's!

That is definitely a benefit of living somewhere small, even if it's just a little one. :) It's kind of annoying when I really want to see something in theaters and the closest screening is three or four hours away... :/ Actually when they started releasing the Pokémon movies in limited theaters, I made a couple of hour trips to go see those (fun tradition!), but generally I just have to skip out. Paprika would have been awesome to see in theaters! It played ONCE in my town in theaters and one of my good friends went and for some reason didn't tell me until after. *Facepalm* I don't know what she was thinking.

Overall, though, I am happy to live out in the country, even if it means we have to make trips to go anywhere... I do like long car rides, so it makes for nice excuses, heh.

Yeah, there are a lot of bad movies out there. D: It doesn't help that my dad rarely wants to see anything in theaters, and my mom generally only wants to see romantic comedies and things that aren't "sad". At least she came to see Slumdog with me, and loved it. :D

Yeah, it's coming here 9th February. Not much longer :D
We get practically every major Western movie and something that's been in the press so much will definitely come here. As long as it's not R-rated or with Controversial Political Issues (we still got stuff like Juno and Brokeback Mountain but with higher ratings) we're bound to get it.

From: [identity profile] archaneah.livejournal.com
Hmmm, what IS the rating system like in singapore? Cuz Brokeback, and (I think) Juno were both rated "R" here, right? How does that translate there?

Good! Go see it. I think you will probably like it a lot. :)

Oh yeah, my parents are definitely not movie-goers either... actually I don't think I have ever watched a movie with my dad in my whole life (not that I'd want to), and my mum probably took me to a handful of kid's movies when I was very young and that was about it. Most of the time I'm either going with 1 or 2 friends (their suggestion), or on my own (every time I watch anime).

My mum might not go because she's getting on in age and doesn't like going out just to watch a movie, but if I can convince her and help her a lot that week (perhaps get my brother along, since he'll be in town)... hm. Amusingly enough she sat down and ended up watching most of Princess Mononoke when I watched it a few years ago, heh. She also watched a bit of Whisper of the Heart and kept telling me "Look at how helpful she is to her mum! You could take a leaf out of her book!"... never misses a chance, lol.
She doesn't like most narratives anyway, it takes a lot of context (or sheer luck) to get her to watch anything.

Oh, that's good! Definitely not too long!

Actually, Slumdog Millionaire is rated R, but I'd say it was a fairly soft R in my opinion.

Date: 2009-01-24 07:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wao.livejournal.com
Oh, it was rated R there? Okay, I always thought it was lower. Then again it's TEH GHEI!!1 and America and I have the memory of a gnat, so...

This is our rating system:
* G (General) - everyone
* PG (Parental guidance) - everyone, advisable with an accompanying adult
* NC16 (not for children under 16) - for above 16s, contains partial nudity and little violence
* M18 (mature 18) - for above 18s, contains partial nudity(frontal), moderate violence and may contain religious issues
* R21 (restricted 21) - for above 21s, contains nudity (sex scenes), violence, and may contain religious issues
* Banned - contains issues that cause controversy in Singapore

It was modified only a few years to go, for most of my life so far it's been G, PG and R (21), nothing in between.

I think for R21 and M18 movies you get carded and can't enter even with an older person if you're underaged. Not entirely sure. Never bothered.
