Michiko to Hatchin looks like it could be the series of the season if it continues to be as awesome as the first episode. 8D I loved the first episode! Awesome animation, interesting characters and story already, fun use of music--it's just got everything going for it. I'm getting great vibes here!

I was going to watch a bunch of first episodes today, but after watching Michiko to Hatchin I think it'll have to wait until tomorrow because everything else isn't as attention-grabbing right off the bat.

So far the first episodes I've watched are:

- Shikabane Hime -- Not too impressed with this one so far because it seems to be reasonably standard monsters-and-action fare so far, but it's GAINAX so I'll stick with it for now and see if it shapes up later. And it could--while it didn't get off to a start that really made an impression on me, it might take some interesting twists if I stick with it.

- Toradora -- I've seen the first two episodes (and I might go watch the third now). I don't think this series is amazing or anything and I'm not really into romance anime, but so far it's quite likable and pleasant to watch, so I'm definitely sticking with it. :) I did rather like the second episode. I think Taiga runs the risk of turning into a stereotypical tsundere, but she could also turn into a fantastic character depending on what direction the series takes.

- Kuroshitsuji -- Hmmm, it was quite entertaining. Again, nothing amazing, but certainly likable enough to keep and with some fun characters. Also, Maaya as a twelve-year-old boy? Yesssss, she sounds awesome. I love how large of a range she's playing now; I remember she used to mostly just play girls with sweet-sounding voices so I'm really proud of how she's branched out. :D Also, the ending theme animation is adorable.

- Toaru Majutsu no Index -- A bit forgettable and shounenesque so far, but I'll watch a couple more episodes before I say for sure what I'm going to do with it. It's not bad, just kind of decent-could-go-either way type of stuff.

- Kannagi -- I am a bit ashamed to admit that I enjoyed the first episode of this. ;___; But--um, it was cute and has pretty animation? I don't know, I'll keep it for now because it's cute and pretty, even though I generally hate these series where the goddess type girl shows up and lives in the guy's house and blah blah blah. Whatever. XD The ending theme is pretty!

I still have to watch:

- Eve no Jikan
- Mouryou no Hako
- Casshern Sins
- Yozakura Quartet
- Ga Rei Zero
- Chaos;HEAd

Anything else you guys have seen that you urge me to check out the first episodes of? I may go back to the other entry about fall anime and see if there's anything I missed that I wanted to look into.

I'm hoping not because this is quite a few series to keep track of, but I don't want to miss out on anything good if there's something I should be checking out! As a note I've decided not to watch the Tales of Abyss anime; I'm not a huge fan of video games and anime based off of video games in general. ^^;

Wee! I watched the first episode of Michiko to Hatchin today too!! Was gonna blog about it until I saw your post!

I do have to complain a bit and say the first episode feels a bit like Cinderella, and Michiko is the female prince haha. But so far so good. The first episode gave me....Ghibli vibes (instead of what? manglobe vibe?)?? Maybe the dominant female characters and the female director has to do with this? The animation is superb and with Watanabe Shinichiro the music just cannot go wrong. I'm quite pleased with how they added bits of Latin America culture into this. Like you see Spanish written everywhere instead of English (save work for Spanish fansubbers)! I mean we all know the Japanese are obsessed with English and there are shows that take place in Germany (ie. Monster), Italy (ie Baccano..right?), France (ie. Gankutsou), China (ie Fushigi Yuugi..not sure if that's a good example) and whatnot. I cannot remember an anime that has anything to do with South America or Spain, in that Spanish is the predominant language. Of course, if you think of any, let me know!

Well, I don't have any shows to recommend at this point. I'll check out Toradora since you like it. Will let you know if I encounter a "must see", although I probably need more rec than you do.

I loved the 1st episode of Michiko to Hatchin too and I only checked it out on a whim because everyone is talking about it but I didn't expect to love it as much as I did.

Although another show I would recommend to check out is Mouryou no Hako which is a creepy murder mystery. I think it has the second best first episode after this.

I have to admit I liked the first episode Kannagi too, just for the animation. .__.; And Nagi is cute. And it made me laugh. I guess we'll see if it's worth watching for anything else...

Shikabane Hime got interesting in the third episode when it started hinting at things going on behind the scenes, so hopefully it'll be getting into plot soon. Though the second episode won points with me too because it had creepy undead children, which always freaks me out, and along with the fact that I watched it in a dark room past midnight.. *shudder*

Yes, it's admittedly a rather cute and nicely done series so far, even though I'm not into those types of series at all. I might as well stick with it; even if it's embarrassing to admit that I'm watching it, as long as I get some level of enjoyment out of it there's no reason not to watch it. ^^;

Oh, good! I'm glad it gets better. I know I have the second episode all downloaded, but my anime watching system is rather disorganized at the moment so I'll get to it when I get to it. :) Creepy undead children sounds promising!

I'm glad to hear that! I have quite a few second episodes downloaded, but I have to figure out what my anime watching system is so I can get to watching everything I have downloaded.

Also, I was all excited about Eve no Jikan and downloaded it and was all "I'm going to watch this NOW!" and then I think I fell asleep or something and forgot all about it. Hahaha, I fail. XD Will definitely be watching that, and I'm looking forward to it!

I was so glad when Hana smacked the hell out of her step-sister, too. Gahhh, that made me so mad what she and the step-brother were doing. D:

It's really fantastic so far! I hope it continues to stay this good because the first episode was one of the better first episodes I think I've seen overall.

I'm downloading Mouryou no Hako right now, thanks!

I'm glad you're watching it too!

Yes, it does give off the Cinderella vibe a little; though I don't think little Hana is going to become a princess... Maybe a badass, though. ;D The series isn't incredibly original, I don't think, but it's the way it tells the story that's gotten my full attention. The animation and the choice of music are great, and it's already building such interesting characters one episode in.

And it is cool how they're using a different culture than Japan normally explores--I like it when anime goes for something different than, well, Japan. And as for Italy, Gunslinger Girl took place in Italy. :D

Toradora is pretty good so far. Don't expect a lot out of it but it is entertaining and really likable in my opinion. I'm hearing great things about Eve no Jikan though I haven't watched it yet; that might be another one for you to look out for and try.

Adored Michiko to Hatchin too! Even though Watanabe is only involved in the music, it does give that sense of Bebop brilliance, and I'm sure it will turn out to be a top series!

I think the series is set in Brazil, at least that's what I guess from the fact that it's Latin America but there are people with both Japanese and Latin American names, what with the number of Japanese people who immigrated to Brazil 100 years ago. And the fact that it's Michiko e Hatchin when not written in Japanese with 'to', using the Portugese 'e' particle rather than the Spanish 'y' particle. At least as far as I can find out. It'll be really interesting to see an anime take on the Japanese-Brazilian community. I've only really seen something before in the Natsuo Kirino novel 'Out' (and in that case it talked about Japanese-Brazilians moving back to Japan in the modern age).

Mouryou no Hako is really, really good too. Nice and haunting with some gorgeous animation. It's definately a keeper for me.

Mmm, what else other than Kuroshitsuji have I really enjoyed? Kurozuka is really good if you like kind of historical (I think it ends up in modern times), bloodthirsty shows. Yozakura Quartet decent and enjoyable, but a 3/5 show for me.

I adore Nodame Cantabile Paris, but it's a second season and has a 24 episode first season (and the live-action show is better as well).

I keep hearing that Casshern Sins is brilliant, and I really enjoyed the Casshern movie, but I've so much on and it's not the genre I automatically good for, so if you've got anything to say to sway me, I'm all ears.
